good luck poor baby!
gregory had that surgery but not until he was 16 months old. The vet who did it is our normal vet, but he is a bully specialist. He had his nose holes widened ( triangle cuts) soft palate shortened and got fixed all in one go. I was so scared and called them almost every hour to check on him. He got stitches in his nose and had to wear a cone for a week until they came out. He is much happier and has more energy now that he can breath better.

I'm sure he'll be just fine - don't worry too much. Anesthesia these days is so safe............

Doubt that it will change looks much and it's just so important to do. Imagine if you couldn't breathe well - heck, even plants need oxygen to breathe.!!

I'm glad that you trust your vet, but I would certainly speak to the other person who has had it done there to put your mind at rest. It's just too bad that you can't wait until the puppy is a little older, however it seems to be a case that if he doesn't get it done then he may die!!

Let us know when the operation is, and keep us updated on how your puppy does!!!

Update on my gabby ~ Well surgery date came and went, we decided the morning of surgery to push it off as she had been breathing quite a bit easier.... So we are praying that we will be able to hold off until she is 6 months old and ready to be spade. Thanks so much for your prayers... prayer does change things!!!!! :)

Poor thing. If you have an option for laser surgery it is much easier on the dog. 6 weeks is so young, but when it can mean life or death you don't have much choice. Best wishes to you and her.

its so sad when a bully has any breathing problem,a few years ago the breeder ive had my bullys from had a little girl 10 weeks old she was due to be flown abroad but developed breathing problems,i was asked to look after her as the breeder had the litter mates so i agreed, the poor little thing was so poorly even eating was such a chore for her ,she just lay on my knee all day, there were times when my lads came home from school she would try to play with them but after a few minutes she was struggling for breath,i took her to a specialist vet,who said her airway was too short for her too survive ,also her spine wasnt as it should have been,i was asked if i wanted her to be put to sleep or she would have to be pumped full of steroids and would be incontinent ,it was so hard to say yes to putting her to sleep, but really had no choice ,i cried so hard and i had only had her a week,i brought her home and buried her in the garden and planted a tree ,we call it winnies tree,i know its a totaly different condition and she had always been past help,im sure that once your bully has had the op all will be fine and will be snuffing and snoring in no time lol, karen

That is good news for now, she is a doll. Maybe she will grow in such a way that they will stay open enough until she gets bigger. Hugs!

oh she is adorable.. don't be surprised if it gets even better. My cousins EB had this problem, she called me hysterical they were told the same thing as you.. they waited, had the surgery done closer to 8 months and I am happy to report that Lucas is going to turn 3 this summer and is a very happy healthy dog. so happy you were able to wait and oh my gosh she is so cute!!!! I could just squeeze those pictures!! :luv:

Thanks so much y'all :) I will keep you posted....

karenben isn't it amazing how we can become so attached in a week..... I am sure it was hard to put her down. I was faced with a similar experience when one of my puppies developed a heart problem, he acted like he was drunk, couldn't lift his head and staggered when he walked. It came on in a moment and we kept him for a week or so hoping he would get better but he just didn't. The vet said there isn't anything they can do for him... so I took him back one last time and the secretary at the vet told me if I wouldn't mind she would like to try to keep him and see if he gets better, I was happy to let her try..... it took several weeks but "gibbs" is now 2 years old and as far as any one can tell he is a happy healthy dog! miracles still happen! :)

So glad to hear that you were able to postpone the surgery! That's great news. It's so scary having young puppies operated on. Especially since I think it would have potential to change if it was done that young?

Anyways, she is just ADORABLE, oh my gosh. I want to just pick her up and squeeze her and love her. You need to post more photos of her! I just love the brindle.
