Default Joey's Eye Issue UPDATE -- NEED INPUT PLEASE

    Hello all,

I started a new thread because we're at a new point. Joey went back to her doc this morning. Doc says "the inner most of the ulcer has healed nicely BUT there are now 2 distinct ulcers on the outer edge, right and left side"

She said that we are at the point where she needs to get in there and do a thorough debridement. Not "full on sedation" but a sedative so that Joey does not move her head during the procedure.

I need input friends, please let me know what you think and anyone who has had their bully go through something like this.

    Thanks in advance friends!!!

    Sue

Not a "full sedation" is better. All I can say. Hopefully others will give your some inputs if they’ve been through this. If I recall there was a few with same issue

I have not had a dog with this problem, but I have seen a vet do this: **The eye may be also scraped to encourage healing. The technical term for this is débridement. In this procedure, a sterile cotton-tipped applicator soaked in diluted povidone-iodine is used to remove all the loose epithelium that has started to heal over the ulcer. This is removed because the ulcer needs to heal from inside out. Not quite sure if this is what your vet plans to do, but I am sending BIG prayers for sweet little Joey, and for mama!

Never been through this but if you trust your vet, I would do it. I’m always paranoid with eye issues as they can turn bad quickly if not taken care of.

Agree with Citty... as long as you trust your vet then it is something to do. Since it is only sedative it is little less stressful too

Thanks so much Lynn! Exactly what she said but mentioned needle and maybe also mentioned swab, I cannot recall, ugggg I think I stopped hearing after she mentioned that she must be sedated so her head stays still, but not full on sedation, her words.

Thanks again for the information and your support and prayers!

Thanks so much and agree! Left untreated it could be a really big problem. I do trust her, she’s been Joey’s vet since she was a wee pup. We did our best for 2 months with meds but......not enough healing.

    Thanks again Citty!
