Maybe I've been out of the loop a bit but...
    These new ulcers...what caused them?
    Does Joey have entropion?
Is this "doc" an eye specialist?
I assume that this sedation does not require intubation...that's good IMO.

Sending prayers... any eye issue needs to be dealt w/immediately!!! I agree w/the gang... the partial sedation sounds like the best choice IMO.

Joey had a scratch across her eye, either dew claw or stick, not sure, so ulcers from the trauma to her eye. Sorry, not familiar with entropion. Joey has had zero health issues, thank God.

Not eye specialist but has performed this debridement many times. The “light sedation” does not require intubation. Which I assume is best?

We’ve been treating with antibiotic ointment and atropine drops for about 2 months, doc is concerned for her vision at this point

Thanks so much Tracey! It relieves me so much knowing that the longtime bully parents here are in agreement. Prayers appreciated too friend!

IMO, Joey needs to see an eye specialist. This has gone on for far too long. An non perforated ulcer should have healed completely weeks ago unless there is something preventing the healing. A 2nd opinion is advised.

Thanks for your input. Doc told us that it would take time to heal initially, and has, but at the center, not on the edges. I’ll ask about “perforated” or not. Joey is a very healthy dog, what would prevent the healing?

    Misdiagnosis of the initial cause.

What we see most often is:
    Entropion...

    Also:
    Ectopic cilia...

Lastly, what MINI had(combined with mild chronic dry-eye) that totally screwed her eyes up. She's OK now, BTW.

Thanks Chip! Joey has no issues in the other eye, just the one that was scratched. I read all the links and thankfully Joey has none of the signs of these underlying issues. BTW the scratch was clearly seen on eye, even by me. Doc is confident the ulcer developed from the trauma.

Glad to know Mini is now ok.

I have gone back and re-read the content of both threads. Your vet has been treating Joey since late Oct./early Nov...nearly 9 weeks. Based on our experiences...Ulcers like you have described usually take 2 weeks to heal...sometimes a little longer.

IMO, your vet should have referred you to a specialist long ago.
Eyes are not something to take chances with...and I fear your vet is out of her league.
I hope that I'm incorrect and if you go through with this procedure you come back and tell us all is GREAT! That would be an awesome start to the NEW YEAR!

    @sisters3
I think what @oscarmayer says is very wise; if your vet is not an ophthalmologist, Joey should probably see one. It's always good with a second opinion, and at least here, ophthalmologists have more advanced equipment and can therefore see much more than the ordinary vet.

Castor has had eye issues for several years - first enthropion and now a dry eye which requires daily medication. Our ordinary vet clinic has always diagnosed him correctly, but on a few occasions they have referred him to an eye specialist, which has been good.

Castor is snoring beside me - it sounds as if he is humming 'say hello to Joey'

Thanks for your guidance! I’ve asked all along to take a treat and see approach as long as it’s safe, she has said all along the second it’s apparent that a more aggressive treatment is needed that’s what we need to do, we were concerned about sedation.

Doc has scanned her eye once a week throughout, it has healed, but not enough. I definitely trust her, very experienced with bullies, french and English.

It’s definitely not her vets actions that concern me, it’s the sedation.

    Thanks again very much Chip!
