Hi, I am new to this page, but have been reading some threads and thought it would be a great way to get some advice.
We have a new bulldog puppy, now 13 weeks old and have been taking him on short walks around our house - nearby fields and woods etc.
2 days ago, he didnt want his breakfast and woke to very lethargic and had sickness and diarrhoea... thankfully only outside ! It lasted all day, he wasnt himself and slept and wanted cuddles all day.
Yesterday, he was 90% back to his normal self, he ate a bland diet as we thought best to be safe still and we kept an eye on him - he still had diarrhoea, but no sickness.
This morning at 3am, I saw that he was sick in his crate and today has woken up again with no energy and no spring in his step whatsoever. He hasn't touched his food again either.
I am thinking to call the vet today, as it has lasted a couple days now, but just wondered if theres anything else to try perhaps?
We think he may have picked something up in the fields/ woods which could have upset him maybe...
Thanks!

Hi Kayleigh

Welcome to the forum and really sorry to hear about Bruce.

As it has been a couple of days i would be tempted to give the vet a ring, you may be able to set up a virtual appointment online (we have had one ourselves this week with Dudley :()

You said you are taking him for small walks, i am sure you already know but they really do need to be short walks at his age and definitely should not be leaving the house during the red hot weather like we have just had in the UK this past weekend.

Everyone will tell you and believe me no one is preaching but heat and Bulldogs definitely don't mix, they often look fine but they are really overheating.

Hope he feels better soon and keep us posted.

Si.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have called the vet and they will call me later for a telephone appointment, so will see what they say!
They advised to starve him again for 24 hours, so I have lifted his breakfast ( not that he touched it anyway) and will make sure he drinks his water little and often.
Yes, they have been short walks as we know they dont do well in the heat, but it has been hot. We took him for a walk yesterday evening at 19:30 and he seemed okay, not 100% but okay. I'm just hoping he's eaten something that needs to clear his system!
I will enquire with the vet on what to try and feed him tomorrow, providing he's perked up HOPEFULLY! Probably something dry like rice maybe, or something to settle his stomach from them maybe...
Thanks again.
Kayleigh

Immune system is weak, not because of anything he caught but because he's young. Do not take him out in the woods or the park or anywhere but your home/yard until he's completed all of his puppy shots. There are life-threatening diseases out there that his body cannot fight off...namely parvo/distemper. Resist the temptation to have him socialize with other dogs.

Hi,

He has had all of his vaccinations and is now okay to be walked and socialise - even though we have tried to build it up slowly for him and and not over do it. The vet thinks it is a tummy bug and had given us some meds ( basically good micro organisms and prebiotics sources) for him to take and hopefully settle his tummy! He's a bit livelier now would you believe, but I think it's because he's hungry and looking for food! Hopefully it'll clear up with this stuff to ease/settle his tummy!
Thanks though for your reply!

If you go to a heath food store, look for fermented sauerkraut or fermented veggies. Add one tablespoon in one meal every 2nd day. He will build up his good gut flora in his gut.
