Surgery is set for April 29th! I found a vet Iā€™m comfortable with. We are only doing the salivary surgery, he thinks doing the palate especially is just too much trauma at once in the mouth. He thinks that Brutus breathes pretty dang well for a bulldog so weā€™ll just wait and see. Itā€™s also pretty costly for the salivary surgery so Iā€™m okay with just doing that for now. I really liked the idea of just putting him under once but itā€™s more risky...the salivary surgery is pretty involved. I asked a ton of questions which actually got answered...Iā€™m feeling pretty good and confident. This boy has my whole heart and itā€™s so scary to put him under. Iā€™m feeling much better with a confident vet.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions:)

Is this at River Road?

Just wanted to update everyone. Brutus had surgery Monday and is healing well! He seemed a little off yesterday but is back to his normal self today.

We went with the less invasive procedure. They basically drain it and suture it open so it can freely drain. Sometimes it does come back and then weā€™d have to get the saliva glands taken out. Which only a specialist can do and itā€™s expensive. Fingers crossed this works. Just excited itā€™s finally over (at least for now). It was getting ridiculously big and irritating him. He couldnā€™t chew on anything. On Monday morning he actually couldnā€™t even close his mouth it was so big. Not very fun for a teething puppy.

So glad you found someone that you can trust-and was willing to answer your concerns. That is what we all need in a Dr. If they can't be "bothered" then we can't be bothered! Happy that your boy is doing well! Marlana He is so cute!

Thank you! Iā€™m so glad we found someone. Heā€™s feeling so much better. It kept getting infected and was so huge the morning of surgery that he couldnā€™t close his mouth all the way. Itā€™s been almost a week and heā€™s already trying to chew on everything which he hasnā€™t done in a month. He also just seems to feel better and be more energetic in general, which Iā€™m sure is because of infection. They say itā€™s not painful but inflammation plus the pressure...couldnā€™t have been comfortable either.
