Just when things were getting easier with the sudden loss of our Bogey, we just found out that the mother of his last litter did not make it after she gave birth to 5 boys and 2 girls. I'm sad for the loss of the mother but I am terrified for the pups as well. Does anyone here have any experience raising newborn pups without the mother present? I realize how important it is to have the mother and siblings around a newborn for proper development in the early stages and I want to be prepared as much as possible. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Cheers!

OMG! What a disaster! It is possible, but quite difficult. They need to be fed very often and get tummy massage and wet rug massage of butt to promote pooping and many other things. But it is definitely possible, even wild animals' cubs survive with proper care.

Ys it can be done with a lot of work, but even better if you can find a surrogate mother. A dog with a few puppies, but plenty of milk or even a bitch with falce pregnancy will do.

As Riisi mentioned... see if there is a surrogate... our first bulldog puppy's Momma died shortly after birth and he was nursed by another momma that did not have a litter

Agree with surrogate, if possible. My breeder had a previous litter and the mama's milk was bad and two of the babies had died. Their vet had a French Bulldog that had just had a litter so she became the bulldog's surrogate and did just fine.

Wow!.. That's incredible!... I will definitely keep everyone posted on whats going on. I have yet to get any updates on the pups as I'm sure the breeder is trying their best to have these pups pull through. Cheers!
