We are getting one. I talked in a previous post about Orion's eye. We took her in and I really wasn't happy with the Dr. I actually called the clinic and voiced my concern. When I called the clinic to schedule the initial appointment, I told them all her symptoms and what I thought could be happening..entropion. So, he took her into the back room and did a dye test. He came back in...said her eye doesn't have any scratches. She just had inflammation. I asked if her eyelashes could be causing it and he said.."if it were her eyelashes, it would be scratching her eye...she has no scratches. I can't verify entropion..but you can take her to a specialist and have them look closer."
That was it. He gave me some neo/poly/dex and sent me out the door. A week later, she still is having problems. So, I called the clinic and let them know how irritated I was with the lack of concern for Orion.
Anyways, I called a different clinic. This is the clinic Orion was born in. The owner is very well informed will bulldogs and is even listed online as a good bulldog vet with the Bulldog Club of the Greater Seattle. I would have stuck with this clinic, but Vegas was in need of a 24 hour clinic. Anyways...I called and left a message and they called my back in 10 minutes. The dr informed me that I should stop using the neo/poly/dex for the sole reason..if she has an ulcer, the steriod part of the med can make it worse. So until we see her at 2pm on Saturday..Orion will just be using the lubricating gel. They told me that they will look at her and Dr. Kate (Dr. Larsen's daughter) said she should be able to diagnose her if possible. She helped me more in 5 minutes than the other dr did the whole time I was there.

Wow that if incredible. You would think that someboedy going to school for such a profession would actually give a :poo: about what is going on with each animal. Then again look at our human drs. I am glad you stuck to your instincts and got another opinion!

Me too I am so glad you are getting a second opinion. I do think if they did a dye on her eye it would have showed, but this is not always the case if it is under the lens. And you know me, I always suspect allergies as being a culprit. Poor baby O, I cannot stand that she is squinting like that. :(. With a magnifying glass it would be very easy to tell if it is entropion- I cannot believe they did not look or even show you the eye dyed!!!

I don't think it's dry eye. She has (for the last year) had overly wet eyes. BUT..Orion will be starting her new food on Friday night. She will try out the Nature's Logic Salmon and Duck.

What made you decide on that particular food? Certain ingredients that were different than what she is on? What is she on now?..... Just curious.

So glad you called the second clinic. I've learned too that when in doubt, trust your gut and get a second opinion. And do research and ask a lot of questions.

I'm surprised the first vet didn't let you know any other possible causes and just ruled out one. I wonder if it's lack of experience or really just lack of care.

I hope you get answers real fast. Is is possible the eye lashes are irritating her but not causing scratches? Years ago it was recommended that Abby get that surgery. I wanted to wait and see what happened, up until her Dry eye Diagnosis (just a couple weeks ago) It never bothered her again. That was about 8 years ago.

Keep us posted.

The reason I am trying this one....In the photo contest for January I won runner up and the winnings was for a free bag of Nature's Logic dog food. desertskybulldogs helped me select which one to try. If it doesn't work, I will try something else.

Natures Logic is also one of my favorite foods. But it is harder to get then Fromm or Nature's Variety. I wish Petflow carried it! I think it will be interesting to see how well baby O does on it. It is gluten free, 100% natural. And the :poo: is like BRICKS! Hardly any :poo: at all. I just love using the :poo: smilie.... ;) I never get to use it!

The orneriness in me today...after having to deal with the in laws while getting over the flu and having my son sick as well. Has made me so ornery that I would have to add. The only thing deserving of the first vet would be a poop pile placed in a box and mailed to them...For that's the sort of treatment they gave you. You might as well give it back.

I'm glad to hear that your second opinion...gave you good advice prior to seeing them. And they sound knowledgeable with eye issues. Just reading what you've learned via phone conversation. Has put my mind at ease that they are going to get to the proper diagnosis.

I am so glad you are taking Orion to see Dr Kate. Between DR. Larson, Dr. Kate, and Dr Stoehr they are the best bulldog vets around.... our young ones see Dr Stoehr on Monday.. snip, snip and LIL Miss will have her eye fixed....finally.
