Figured I'd just post to see if I could get any other additional information as I wasn't too fond of the answers or should I say lack there of from the vet. So this morning around 830 or so I get a text from my fiancée that Stella got sick after eating. I figured it was just a one time thing but she said she vomited 5 times after she ate. I told her she may just be sick and to just monitor her and let her lay down. An hour goes by and she's still vomiting (5 more times) and can't get comfortable laying down, after that I told her to call the vet to bring her in. We bring her in and they take her temp and it normal. They ask to do an X-ray of her stomach since she appears to be in pain (she was favoring her back leg when laying at the vet). They do X-rays and there's no obstructions and everything appears fine. They ask to do blood work and I agreed; again everything comes back normal. Vet said to not feed or give her water till the morning and start off on some bland food. They gave her a shot in the back to help relax her however 6 hours later she's getting figitdy and not laying anymore. I'd like to give her an anti inflammatory because I believe her back leg is giving her some pain but she hasn't eaten all day so I don't want to do that on an empty stomach. Just kind of at a lost for how to make her comfortable. Should I try to give her a little water and food to see if she can hold it down and if so give her an anti inflammatory if she can keep the food down?

Agreed. I tried to give her water last night figuring if she was sick and her stomach was empty, she might be hydrated. Gave her a little bit of water in her bowl but she wanted nothing to do with it. I took some water and ran it over her mouth though because it looked very dry. She was twitching a little last night when sleeping, I'm starting to think she hurt her back again but until I give her some chicken this morning I don't want to give her any medicine on an empty stomach.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby... did the vet give her anything for the vomiting? Did he address the back leg issues? I would give her a SMALL amount of a bland diet... I give my pups rice w/ground sirloin or you could do chicken. If she manages to keep that down for awhile you can give her more, but you don't want to start the vomiting cycle again. As for water, if she's thirsty she will drink... if you notice her gums are pasty to the sides of her mouth then she is getting dehydrated and I would take her to the vet for an IV. Or you could giver her ice chips, that may peak her interest in drinking. Is there a possibility that she ate something that could be obstructing her? Sometimes objects do not show up in the x-rays like stuffed toys... Is she pooping regularly or is it diarrhea?

Sorry for the million questions... just want to make sure the vet covered all of this for you.

Thanks for the response everyone. There's no obstruction according to the X-ray of her belly and she's pretty good with not eating anything she's not familiar with so I don't think she would have digested anything she shouldn't of. Her poops are normal and solid. She did eat a small bit of chicken this morning and finally drank some water. She's been drinking a little bit of water through out the day but her appetite doesn't seem to be there as she doesn't want anymore chicken. It's a start that she's at least drinking water but she's still acting weird by laying down upstairs in the hallway and not on the couch next to us like she normally does.

Couple of things come to mind. Tyson got listeria (food poisoning) when he was eating raw. That had him projectile vomiting numerous times and very sick for a few days. Vet gave him meds, put him on IV fluids and we did bland for over a week to help him recoup.
Second thought is also obstruction - I know that the xray didn't show anything but that is sadly not 100%. Again, Tyson got sick on another occasion - one vet did multiple xrays (we even paid more to have a it reviewed by a radiologist) they also did 3 ultrasounds and stood ground that he didnt have anything in him. He wasn't fully obstructed bc he was still pooping.
We decided to take him to a bulldog specialist (our vet now) who said he need a barium study ASAP. They administered the barium and within 2 hours it had surrounded a foreign object in his stomach. It was a sock, that had already adhered to his stomach. They went in and did emergency surgery a day later... we're talking 4-6 sets of xrays, and 3 ultrasounds - nothing caught it. Not saying she's obstructed but don't take that off the table just yet if she's not getting any better. Good job on running all the tests, and bloodwork though. While her leg could be causing her pain, that wouldn't have any direct relation to vomitting - so def. wondering what's going on. Did they give her a shot of famodine, and metronidazole??

Thanks for the reply; I'm certainly not going to rule obstruction as it seems others (like yourself) are more familiar with this process than I am. I just didn't get a comfortable feeling from the vet; seemed like they wanted to do all this stuff and really provided no information and suggested we come back tomorrow if she doesn't seem better. I should have went to her normal vet but with the amount of vomiting going on I just took her to the local one in town. They did give her a shot, I can't recall the name of it but she mentioned it was similar to an anti inflammatory that should help ease her. I was thinking last night that might have been why she didn't seem like herself.

At this point, 24hrs later and still acting weird, what is an appropriate time to wait before I just bring her to her regular vet? She is drinking again, just the appetite isn't there yet.

You are the best judge because you know her best. If she is still off, I'd get her in today if possible, not later than tomorrow. Since they can't tell you they hurt or are in pain, we must rely on their actions, and their body language... by the sounds of it, she's still in some discomfort... what color are her gums? Also, are you able to pull back the skin on the back of her head and its retracts quickly?
The famodine injection is like pepcid basically to help ease the belly of acid.... and the metronidazole helps control vomiting and diarrhea. (belly too)

Thank you. Yea I know it's all judgement since I know her best but I also want to be cautious just in case. I'll see how she is when I get home and go from there and I'll see about the skin on the back of her head.

Sounds good. If you notice her gums are pale (whitish/grey), not a nice pink color, get her in right away. Also if the skin is very slow in retracting she's dehydrated... again a sign to get in her in right away.

Thanks for the tips! My fiancée just sent me a text saying that she is eating a little more chicken again and she is drinking water. I'll check those 2 things out when I get back from the doctors and see how it looks. Thank you so much for the info!

These are great signs!!! Hopefully she is getting better, sometimes just takes a day or two. Continue with the bland diet for a few days, you can add some boiled rice and egg as well to get her to eat a bit more. Offer Ice chips.... So glad she's eating :) You bet, let us know how's she's doing later on! I'll be checking for updates! Oh, and give her extra loving... that always makes anyone feel better :)

Yes she's helped me before and I appreciate the things suggested.

Got home from the doctors and checked those 2 things and both look good. Gums are a light pink color and skin rebounds normally. She's acting a little bit more normal and seems a little more happy with wagging her tail and kisses. Yesterday she wanted no part of anything and was being very stubborn but I figured it was because she didn't feel good
