Chunk's Entropion Surgery is tomorrow!

Oh I am so glad it is all over now hopefully he can lead a more comfortable life If you feel something is not right, call your vet.... you never know and trust your instincts.

It in itself is a fatal condition so that very well could be the reason that pup died. I am sure Chunk will be fine but like desertsky said always trust your instincts, if something seems really wrong about it then call your vet. It could just be harmless after effects of the anesthesia or him switching while dreaming LOL

How did Chunk come to be diagnosed with this? I asked our vet today about Orion, and he said she'd have to be seen by a specialist in order to determine if she has this or not. He said nothing visible, but it might take a microscope to get a better/clearer look, but since the dye showed no scratches...he thought she was okay.
The puffing and heavy breathing and shaking is a side effect of the drug. He should be fine by morning..maybe even later tonight. Orion was sedated for an xray last August. She had the same symptoms...but by morning she was as ornery as every.

Glad the surgery went well! The shaking is a side effect of the anesthesia. When Cass came home from surgery she was shaking like she was cold. So sad about your friends rottie! It's hard for a dog to recover from that if it isn't caught and operated on immediately.

[MENTION=572]Libra926[/MENTION] Our regular vet diagnosed it when we first got him; at that point it wasn't bothering him so she said that we could decide later on about the corrective surgery (at that point, it would have been preventative). After a few months he started having more problems - eye was red, tearing extra (causing his wrinkle to get infected since it was NEVER dry no matter what I did). After a couple trips, eye drops and ointment and no relief, she referred me to a specialist. That is when I took him to the "Bulldog Vet" in New York (wanted a second opinion from someone who KNOWS bulldogs). He recommended a specialist and the surgery. So it turns out - Chunks eyelids were ALL messed up. They were too long, he had entropion and extropion in the middle! Very glad I saw a specialist - he showed and explained everything to me; I really felt so much more comfortable with him than I had before that.

Is Baby O still blinking a lot? I know you said they did the scratch test which was clear (Chunk's was always clear too), did they do a tear test? Could also be dry eye. (Which the specialist thinks Chunk might have as well but we will know better after he heals.) I think it's definitely worth seeing a specialist if she's still having discomfort. Poor O! Maybe your vet wants you to see a specialist because O's eye isn't severe enough for him/her to be sure? I think in cases like the eyes, it's worth seeing the specialist!

So sorry to hear about your friend's dog..that's horrible.

I'm really glad to hear that Chunk's surgery went well and that he is doing better! He's going to feel so much better now with that fixed.

I've seen Delilah after anesthesia once for her spay and she didn't handle it well at all. Shivering, shaking, could barely move, throwing up..it was so sad.

[MENTION=1909]Lauren Pohl[/MENTION] The anesthesia was definitely the scariest part for me - I've never been through that before! So glad he did well and is now back to his normal self, making me crazy! He wants to play fetch but I'm afraid he'll bust a stitch. So he's laying here pouting.

Thanks [MENTION=676]mammyglicks[/MENTION]! Unfortunately, now Chunk's neck is all irritated and raw from the cone. I'm waiting for a call back from the vet on her recommendation. I took the cone off for a while but I had to follow him around so he wouldn't scratch his eyes ... and yet he's still too quick for me and got one at one point so he's wearing it again. Ugh.
