    Default Allergies still

Hey guys, just adding another chapter to the saga of buff, weve been off and on prednizone for along time now and were trying to get off it again for good but buff is already starting to itch alot and were still on the weening off stage. I have read alot of the allergy and itch treatment threads on here and have tried alot of them but i just cant seem to find anything that works like the prednizone does. She has been allergy tested and they said they couldnt find one main thing that shes allergic to just a little alergic to alot of things. i dont know what to do, i know long term prednizone is going to be bad for her but i cant stand seeing her itch and lick that much shes already scratched herself a sore spot by her eye. we have tried several different dog foods but didnt find any of them helped at all, (but maybe we didnt give them a long enough chance) we have started giving her a spoon of plain yogurt at every meal, she takes Nujoint DS and i ordered Nuvet Plus hoping that might help some of her problems (it couldnt hurt). we were recently at the vet again (the university this time) because of her clumsy and seemingly weak legs because we didnt believe that it was arthritis already (she just turned 4.) they agreed with us and they had 3 specialists from different areas of study look at her and they think she has a degenerative nerve problem that makes her back legs not work how they are suppose to, its a relieve to have a better idea of what it is and that its not somthing thats causing her pain constantly, but at the same time its frustrating because they dont know for sure and even if they did the test to know, they cant do anything about it. so its not worth putting her under and taking her muscle and tissue samples just to find out somthing we cant fix. i know this part has nothing to do with the allergies i just thought i would bring it up incase anyone has had a similar problem, it just feels good to say it to a group of people that might understand. anyway long story short im looking for some new or different allergy ideas that you guys have found to work but have little or no side effects. thanks again for all the help to everyone in this group you've been a great help with alot of stuff over the years.

Hard to pin point any allergies. A lot of members have great success by putting their bullies on raw food. If it's feasible, you might want to check it out. Just a thought

Poor Buff! There is nothing worse than being itchy all the time. What type of allergy testing did they do? Once I had Chumly skin tested here in the US it made a huge difference in his life. He had a blood test in the UK that didn't show anything plus a skin test but they only tested for grasses, worthless. He was on injections every week but he would still have flare-ups a couple of times a year (pollen etc.) but we were able to keep it under control. It was the best thing I did having him tested again.

I am so sorry to hear about her legs, she is having a rough time of it poor girl. Lets hope the supplements help.

Allergies suck and are difficult to pin point the primary causes but once you do you can learn to manage them. With the testing you had done did it come back mostly environmental or food related? If it is food I would strongly suggest giving The Honest Kitchen Preference base mix a try for 30 days to detox her system and then slowly try adding animal proteins back to see what she may be sensitive to. It help us a lot during our journey. If it is mostly environmental you will have to look at what you can do to reduce those allergens surrounding you.

Thanks for all the help I was thinking of getting another allergy test done at the university to see if there was any difference or if it could determine more. Thanks for the suggestion on the base food I was wondering if there was any food that would kind of take away a lot of the variables. We have tired hypoallergenic food but like I said we may not have given it enough time. I'll have to find her last allergy test to share on here and see if you guys can see anything I might be missing. I've heard a lot of good stories about the nuvet plus helping allergies so I'm hoping for a bit of a miracle with it but in reality were going to have to have a good look at everything again and do some more trials.

When she had the testing done... was she on any prednisone at the time or within 30 days of the test being done? if yes, your results are false negatives, the pred suppresses the allergen and they do not show up on the results.

I don't think she was but that is interesting. How long would she have to be off of it for the test results to be acurate?
