    Default Nose fold, eye surgery

Our vet has brought up that Mr. Chubbs would be a candidate to have his nose fold removed. It is constantly dirty (yeast maybe?). Also that he could need surgery to remove some extra tissue in his eyelid.

I'm hesitant about any type of surgery because he had aspiration pneumonia after his neutering surgery and ended up in the hospital for two days.

And new I know removing his nose fold would change the way my cute little baby looks.

anyone have ate experience with either of these? Was it worth it?

Is the rope infected or causing him breathing issues? Eyelid -- is it cherry eye or lashes growing in?

I don't think the rope itself causes breathing issues, but it does seem to be frequently infected with yeast. And I think the vet was concerned for entropion (my husband took him to the vet, so not sure exactly what he said).

I would get a second opinion... Nose rope removal is not common .... I only ever heard of one and it was due to breathing issues.

I would locate a nearby bulldog experienced vet (another if you do hae one) and get a second opinion

I agree… surgery is the vet clinic's bread and butter. IMO I will only go that route if it's absolutely necessary…

@Mcleanb7 your vet said: "Mr. Chubbs would be a candidate" difference between candidate and "removal" I am sure you have noticed this site always gives you great advice. They/We are just some that been there or knows of someone that's been there etc. Dont mean we are experts either but its most of the time plain logic. Im sure your gut tells you, "wait let's get a second opinion". Example, if my doctor would say, "we need to remove" whatever on me, pfffffftttt, damm right I will get another opinion but from a specialist. Wait I got to go knock on wood now after saying that lol.... im no expert but I know I can help in the training area cause I use to train n breed but im no expert in bullies as it's a breed on its own. But I sure read alot in here and elsewhere. Most bulldogs all have good ropes. Of course it will get infected as it overlaps. Just like humans if you have fat/skin (and you dont need to be 300lbs either) that overlaps and it's not cleaned daily and especially dried off properly....well yes that area will be infected. It's up to us ( im NOT saying you guys aren't either ) to clean our areas daily and sometimes 2-3x a day. I clean daily Nyala's ears, around eyes, her small rope which she hasn't grown into it yet and wont get nowhere near one like most bullies and her tail pocket. And once a week she gets a wipe down with these "wet ones". She's not immuned to the doggy world but I sure can put 5 mins a day to make sure she stays healthy and get a specialist if she ever needs one, one day. Crap got to go knock on wood again. Loll

All this to say, I would be the first to get another opinion which im sure you will.

What are you feeding him? A LOT of times facial folds, paw problems etc skin problems are caused by nutrition which is not suitable to the individual dog. Even the best of foods may have an allergen in it that feeds the problem.

he eats nutrisca chicken and chick pea recipe. He was recently allergy tested and of course he is allergic to everything. This is the only food I could find that didn't have any of his allergens.

I don't really want to do the rope removal. I'm more concerned about the eye issue.

Well, you are feeding him good kibbles. Ok here's my other 2 cents worth lol .... If anyone has a dog with allergies towards anything he/she eats, go home cooking or raw. I home cook and comes out to same price as your top notch kibbles that's out there. Especially in the USA your food is so less expensive than us up here. Home cooking at least there is nothing but fresh ingredients. I make a months worth of 2 meals per med size ziploc and voilà its done. About 3 hours of cooking n standing at a counter per month. Worth it. Best kibbles on the planet*still has some preservative cause they still have to form it to a kibble. just a thought

If he does have entropion, he will need a fix for that,as it can damage his eyes. I would get a second opinion. As for the nose rope, I would just be extra vigilant on taking care of that, and not have it removed. That is a scary thought.
