I have always used a Dremel with a large sander. You have to be careful not to leave it in one place for too long because it can get hot. It takes practice. But I have had disasters with clippers over the years and think the Dremel is safer. One dog bled all over the floor and baseboards, running after I clipped too short. Mabel lies on her back and relaxes for her mani pedi. I have never had a dog do that before!

Penny does the same thing! Just about falls asleep on me while I trim her nails. Lol

Once I was clipping Maximus' nails with a clipper ....... and of course I cut to deep and cut the quick. He bled nonstop for over an hour.
My room-mate had to run to PETCO to buy that syptic powder to stop the bleeding. Ever since that experience, I no longer cut Maximus'
nails - I either take him to the Vet to have the Techs do it, or I use the dremel. So much better.

We have a friend who is a groomer come to our home every 3 weeks to dremel nails. Since we switched to a dremel we haven't had any nail splitting to the pad - which had happened to Schultz several time in his early years very painful... Dremel ing seems to keep his nails from doing that
