We went off to the vet this morning and by noon the swelling had increased in size so the vet lanced and drained it. turns out he had a nasty abscess. specimen is off for testing and we are still waiting for the blood results for MMM. My vet feels pretty certain that he does not have MMM and we have discontinued the prednisone while he is on antibiotics. He was only on the steroids for 4 days...we will see what tomorrow brings. I have a pretty unhappy boy right now but he's been up to pee and drink. wish me luck and thanks very much for your comments and information. It really helped.

kazzy220-we got the results of the MMM blood test today - negative!!! It looks like we were dealing with an upper molar problem. I have spoken to a dental specialist referred to me by my vet and we will be getting that sorted asap. Thanks again for your support, I really appreciate it.

Hey everyone!!

Well since it's been about 1 year since Stella was diagnosed with MMM she has been on and off Prednisone. She weighed 48 pounds this time last year and now ways 62! Because of her weight game we have switched to a different steriod. She seems as happy as can be though!

Maggie had it once ... we gradually reduced the steroid and she was fine for the rest of the year. Then she got it a second time ... did the same thing - reduced the amount of steroid gradually and then she was off it. So far it's not come back again. How many times did Stella have it before she was put on steroids permanently??

She was put on steroids immediatelly once she was diagnosed. She was on 2 a day and them we gradually went down to half a pill every other day. So she's been on steriods for 6 months and then off and now back on. But now they have decided to switch her to a different steroid that's not as harsh.374732_10100179299699091_33001392_43964988_387448297_n.jpg

Maggie got it twice and at the same time each year, so although it's not supposed to be seasonal I asked my vet if there could be something that was seasonal that could weaken her immune system to the point the MMM would appear. The vet said that it was theory that had not been either proved or disproved so wouldn't totally rule it out.

As that time of year came round we did everything we could to boost her immune system - mainly switching her to the best food we could that suited her and also used the Grizzly Salmon oil which says can boost the immune system. Don't really know if those things are the reason or not, but we haven't had MMM back again so far!!
