Probably about 5 months ago, my dog was dripping blood while walking around. it wasn't in his pee. we took him to vet and after an ultrasound and urine analysis, the vet diagnosed it as a prolapsed urethra. the vet didn't tell us anything to help prevent it, even though we just spent 400 dollars. here we are again, and he is bleeding again. I have looked at pictures online and have looked as his thing and his isn't huge, just red. he is acting himself and I haven't noticed anything different in behavior. this is getting frustrating cuz I have no idea what to do about it. everything I have read, it says to get castrated, but my dog is already. my dog is 5 years old, neutered, is on great healthy dog food, avoderm salmon and potato grain free. he is not obese for a dog, very active. if anyone can help shed some light for me and tell me what I should do about this. I don't think it necessarily needs surgery because its not extreme as some stories I have read. is there any cream or antibiotics that people have used that worked for their bully? thanks for any suggestions/help, greatly appreciated.

Our bulldog, Butch, had this issue. When it first started bleeding, the vet tried some meds. That did not work. Our vet was going to send us to a specialist for surgery, but the surgeon said our vet could do it. He explained the procedure, and our vet did the surgery. Butch was 6 months old at the time. The surgery was successful. The red round tip did grow back over time, which the surgeon said might happen, but there was never a bleeding issue again. Butch lived to 11 years of age. The funny part was that When the vet who did the penis surgery walked into the room, Butch would turn away and not look at him. Butch always seemed to remember that this was the vet who did the surgery. :) He would act fine if any of the other gets walked in. Good luck to you. It can be very scary when they start bleeding. I have read that not all need surgery, but some do. It was the right choice for our bulldog.

Great information!

I would get a second opinion, just to make sure all is well and see if there is anything to prevent it. There is a member with this experience, but I can remember their name right now, i will tag them when i do.

Good luck and keep us posted.
