Miss Paisley Marie Bamboozler
Hey everyone, I am new to the English bulldog news website, just signed up today. Anyways, I have a three and a half year old English Bulldog. Her name is Miss Paisley Marie Bamboozler and we call her Paisley, or Paisley Girl. We have had her since she was 8 weeks old and we love her to death as she is part of our family.
On October 5th, she woke up and had terrible swelling that was very soft in her throat, very large. She was very active, playful, and her normal self the say before. She was reluctant to eat that morning. I took her to our vet, who she had went to since birth, and they done a blood test, x rayed her, and did a standard exam by looking down her throat and what not. She had a high white blood cell count. They put her on two types of antibiotics for 10 days.
After about 3 days, the swelling in the throat went away, but her lymph nodes were still very swollen and firm. She also has diareaah now at this point. After the 10 days were up, she developed a cloudiness in her eyes which look blue. Her rectum is also inflamed slightly now at this point. We take her back to the vet, they do another blood test and the white blood cell count is good, right were it should be. They conduct another exam and then take a biopsy from her lymph nodes and send to the lab.
Today, she threw up three times. She is not herself, eyes seem to hurt her, hacks a lot, especially when she is active, which she isn't very often right now. She still eats well and normal but will not drink water unless I pour it in her mouth. Still haven't got the results back from the biopsy yet.
We are just so worried. She's so young, lives in the house, eats grain free food, has heart worm and flea pill every month, and both parents are still alive at 7.

Re: Sick bulldog

Aww poor Girl, I'm so sorry you're going through this with Paisley and that she is not feeling well. I don't have any ideas or answers to what could be causing her symptoms, other than an infection, but your vet has already done many tests, and hopefully he'll find out what is causing this. I just wanted to say I hope she's okay, and feeling better soon, and I hope the antibiotics clear it up. Sending love, hugs and prayers that she is back to herself soon. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. Feel better Sweet Girl.

Re: Sick bulldog

Hi and welcome :) I'm sorry to hear about all the problems :( Can it be that the antibiotics are causing the diarrhea and vomiting? Did the vet say anything about that?

The cloudiness in the eyes could be many things... maybe it's not even related to the other problems:unsure: There are lots of genetic eye issues in bulldogs. Does your vet have other bulldog clients? Sometimes it's good to take them to a bulldog specialist as they know the breed very well. I hope Paisley will feel better very soon:hug:

Please let us know what the biopsy said, thinking of you both.

Re: Sick bulldog

Welcome! What brand of heartworm/flea pill are you giving her? When was her last dose? Maybe a reaction to that? I'm pretty new here as well- but that was my first question after reading your post. Hoping today is a better day for your girl!

Re: Sick bulldog

I am so sorry Paisley isn't well! I can understand why you are worried. Her illness sounds pretty mysterious to me. I had a dog once that reacted to antibiotics with diarrhea and vomiting. It sounds like she was heavily dosed with antibiotics and I think a reaction to one or both of those could be a possibility as Petra said. I am clueless about the eye issue. Is your vet sure she doesn't have a blockage of some sort? Could she have eaten anything poisonous--plants or anything?
Just thinking out loud here. Do you have snakes where you live? Could she have been bitten by a bad spider? I'm sure you vet has covered all these bases, but I thought I'd mention them anyway. That she was totally normal when she went to bed, and sooo sick the next morning... I hope it's just an infection that clears up in time. Please keep us posted, Chad chad branham. Get well sweet Paisley!

Re: Sick bulldog

She takes trifexis, but her last dose came a few days after all of this started. She's been on it a while now. Our vet is supposed to be the most experienced vet with Bulldogs in our area. We do have snakes, spiders, wasps etc. We live in eastern Kentucky. Our vet checks in on her a couple of times a day. The results from her lymph node biopsy should be back Monday, praying it's not lymphphoma. Her appetite isn't the best today and she has her mouth open more than normal while just sitting around.

Chad, first of all Welcome to EBN!!! I just read all of your thread, and I'm sorry that I'm late reading this… this post that you just stated has caused alarm bells. Trifexis has been linked to many dogs have seizures and some fatalities… in fact they are in the middle of a lawsuit as we speak. I will find the link to the FB page that may be able to give you more information…

Here is the link...

I'm NOT saying this is the definite cause of course, I just want you to be informed… PLEASE keep us posted on your baby!!!

Re: Sick bulldog

I thought it would be worth noting, also, she seems to eat wet food better than dry food

Re: Sick bulldog

There have been many complaints and reports about the drug Trifexis. It is said that it takes up to six months for the drug to get out of the dogs system. Of course the maker of the drug denies that it has caused many ill effects and/or deaths in dogs. I'm just thinking that this is a possibility-I would personally not use it. If you mention it to your vet, he will probably say that it is safe because there has been no "official" proof, but there have been many ill effects reported by owners.

Re: Sick bulldog

Our vet is leaning to lymphoma, I'm afraid. It's just hard I swallow with it being so sudden and her so young.

Lynn is correct. Please no more Trifexis. Guarantee that is the eyes and breathing problem. I am not smart enough to word this correct but our Love of our Life Frenchie is no longer with us after taking Trifexis. To add to that our vet specializes in Bulldogs. Our vet cried for prescribing Trifexis. Can your vet give your pup something to wash it out of her system. In my opinion which doesn't mean much I would take her to the vet for them to watch for a few days. I wouldn't go with the lets wait and see. Ralphie
