Murphy has his first cherry eye surgery ( tucking it back with a stitch)August 21st.
His left eye healed up really nicely, the right eye not so much.

He had his second cherry eye surgery September 24th.
We have had two check ups since then and his eye was still swollen. Where the pink is but looked meaty almost like hamburger.
So more steroid drops to keep it down and the vet said it would eventually go down in time.

Last weekend his left eye popped out( that's the good eye) probly 8 times over a 3 day period.
Massaged it back in and good to go. Haven't seen it since!

But today my husband messaged me while I was at work and said the cherry on his bad eye came out and he couldn't massage it so he was waiting for me to try.
I had no luck.
Letting him rest now and going to see what happens in the morning.
I am putting lubricant in it as well as his drops.

And when I say I comes out it isn't a cherry color
Just a round ball that is tissue colored.

So ?s

If I possibly get it in great & good to go
No worries
But if I can't

( hoping I can because we leave tomorrow for our last dune trip of the season and Murphys first trip to the beach)
Has anyone had them removed??
I can do drops everyday no problem but I just want to make sure that would be the right decision before I let them put him under again.

Does anyone know what kind of drops they use if the gland is taken out??
If surgery is my only option ( we have another check up next Saturday the 24th)
I would almost want to have them both taken out :( that way I wouldn't have to put him under agin if the other eye starts acting up.

A couple pictures from before and after. image.jpeg

If you zoom in on the picture of him laying down you can tell his eye "meat" :/ is a little more swollen that the other eye.
But the progress is still amazing from what he had.
He just has such a great pretty face :)

Eye specialist is what you need right now. I would not let them take all the gland out, but they can reduce it(I can see they've been massive), so you don't have as high risk of him developing a dry eye which is very nasty condition and can lead to blindness.

I agree with Rissi, I would take him to an eye specialist for a second opinion and to see what he recommends and what the best options are. I don't have any experience with cherry eye coming back out after surgery. My female Blossom developed cherry eye when she was 5 months old, and we waited until she was 7 months old to have her spayed and cherry eye repaired at the same time. Our vet does not remove the gland, she tacks them back in, we were very happy with the results, Blossom didn't have any complications, no infections, or tears after her surgery, she had a beautiful result. It's been almost 4 years and you would never know she had her eyes done. I will tag another member Pati, who's dog had complications after cherry eye surgery, maybe she can give you some advice. I'm sorry you're going through this with Murphy.

I would have another vet look at it, some vets are definitely better than others with cherry eye surgeries. Preferably an opthomolgist.

I believe the vet we are going to has been closely working with an opthomologist. But I am not certain
I mean his left eye is absolutely perfect and looks great.

Thank you guys for all of the feedback.
I just hate to see him keep having to go back and forth to the vet and everyone being in his eyes all the time. & me just not knowing what to do about it anymore :(

I am going to try a warm rag tonight and gently massage his face
I mean he does like a face massage with all that extra skin.
I will post a picture a little later of what it looks like
I'm going to keep his eye moisturized and I have a medicated ointment for eye infections as well until his next vet checkup in a week.
