So, just for a quick background - Brynnlee is allergic to potatoes and cheese, we learned that one the hard way as I was not told about any allergies when I got her. Today I left her home, as it was way to hot and humid here in Wisconsin to take her with me, with my mom and step dad - she was her normal self when I left. About an hour 1/2 later I get a phone call, it is my mom freaking out because Brynnlee's entire face is swollen. I have drilled into my moms head - as just about no one I trust to leave Brynn with in case of things like this, that if an allergic reaction like this happens give her 2 Benadryl and call my vet asap. I get worried about her breathing being compromised so I always rush her into the vet and they are on it with an injection to bring her relief faster as well as monitor her better. Anyways, while I am on the phone with my mom she tells me she gave Brynn 2 tabs of Benadryl - I was out fishing with my dad so I quick gathered up our things and told him I need to get back to my car asap and get to the vet - told my mom throw her in the car and meet me at the vet. She called the vet on the way and they said give 2 more tabs of Benadryl and we will see you there - so by now she already has 100mg of Benadryl in her & nothing is helping her at all. The vet gave Prednisone to help with itching cause she was rubbing her face all over everything and biting at her paws, ect. This time around they did not want to give her an injection because she had already had so much in her system so they waited for awhile to make sure the meds they gave kicked in and she started to act a little better so they sent me home with Prednisone and a timeline of when to continue with Benadryl. So, I get home with her and give her another Prednisone as ordered, and then two more Benadryl as ordered... a little bit later and absolutely no rest from her and I thought all that would knock her out as I was hoping she would be able to relax enough to sleep... Nope! I called my vet and said nothing is working - they said give a 3rd Prednisone and 3 more Benadryl - they think from previous allergic reactions she is developing a tolerance so it isn't working as effectively - okay now she starts to do better swelling goes down and she sleeps for awhile... oh but I was wrong again - awhile was not enough... then she comes back with the itching and craziness associated so I gave 3 more Benadryl (per my vet and mind you this was spread out amongst hours) so, now all the hives are gone and her face is looking much better, BUT she will not stop panting still... and this is now 12 hours later and her right side of her neck is swollen in one spot and it isn't going away at all - even though the rest of the swelling is decreasing this spot is not going away. I looked all over for bug bites - nothing. No redness. Not sore to tough. Just enlarged on that side and it isn't changing. Now, I left her home and she was fine when I left - my mom and step dad were coming inside with Culvers food - cheese curds and french fries to be exact - my mom said she started acting this way before she went outside and at that time it had been a couple hours since she had been outside to even come in contact with anything out there - but they were eating lunch and my mom says she did not feed her anything. My suspicion is my step dad either fed her a cheese curd or french fry or they fell on the ground and Brynn ate them... she lays at my feet when I eat - but of course she will eat food if it falls on the floor. He did not admit to feeding her, but he also continuously forgets that she cannot eat whatever we want to give her - and not long after they ate lunch she started in with this entire reaction. So I can't say what it is from, but I wondered if a bee got into our house and she ate it and it stung inside her throat causing a giant reaction or she got into some of their food and that caused it - because she also tries to 'catch' bugs... but I am wondering what you all may think the result of this random right side ( left side in picture ) may be from ? Any one know any tips or tricks i can do to make her more comfortable??? My vet will follow up in the morning and I am going to mention the right side random lump that is still swollen and everything but I hate seeing her like this and I feel like a helpless mom.
