    Default Bulldog has difficulty pooping

Hey guys, turning to the forums for help b/c no vet in my area can seem to figure out whats wrong with my Whiskey. This is really more for Vets as i feel this is a very uncommon issue. I'll try to keep this as short as possible but include all the relevant facts. In a nutshell, my bulldog can not poop normally. What used to come easily has become very very difficult for him and he literally only drops a small nugget or two after being outside for 20 minutes.

Whiskey is currently 3 years old (Turns 4 in December)

In February of this year I took my English Bulldog in for an annual check up and to evaluate a hard lump on his leg. He wasnt neutered at the time so he always got excited around other dogs (drooling, breathing heavily, etc). 5 minutes into the examination the Vet started going off about the lump and said it needed to be removed immediately and that he was almost certain it was a tumor (Myst Cell Tumor). I asked him if we really needed to remove it or if we should pull a sample first and he told me he believed the tumor had spread to his lungs and that was probably why he was breathing so hard. I told him he was just excited b/c he was playing with other dogs but the Vet seemed to dismiss my comments. Either way, he was the expert right? So I scheduled an appt 2 days later to have it removed and tested. He also suggested that we neuter him at the same time since bulldogs are sensitive to anesthesia and he wanted to do it all once. Either way we did both procedures and after removing the lump it turned out to be nothing but benign fatty skin.

Once I got my dog back he was acting very strange. He would look at me as if I was a stranger and would just lay in his bed all day. When I'd try to take him out, he wouldnt pee or poop but after some research on the web, they said it was normal for him to take a day or two before going back to his normal schedule. After a full week, he could pee slowly but would not/could not defecate. He would squat for 5 to 10 minutes with nothing coming out. I immediately took him back to the vet and they took x-rays and told me nothing was wrong. They told me I was crazy if I thought his issues were in any way related to the surgery. So after months of taking him in for the same issue, I took him to a specialist who suggested we clear out his stomach (pumped about 2.5lbs of food out) and put him on prescription medicine. Still no success as he's back to having difficulty pooping.

Im wondering if its something internal or if he's just forgotten somehow how to poop. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. His poop, when it comes out, is still very soft and we've run urine, blood and stool test. Im out of options and getting desperate as ive already racked up thousands in vet bills.

I'm very sorry but something doesn't seem right here.

Wondering if the Vet might have damaged nerves and/or
muscles when neutered. His problems aren't normal and
especially suspicious after having no issues before.

Hopefully, someone has advice or experience to help you.
Are you sure he's got no blockages?

That was my first assumption as well but the Vets (both the first, second and third) say its highly unlikely. I think vets are like lawyers, they always protect their own.

No blockages either, we did xrays and colon/stomach cleanse and they say everything seems normal.

Is there another vet in your area that could give you some insights? I know you're already racking up the vet bills but this guy/girl doesn't seem to know what's going on or doesn't seem to care?

Just out of curiosity...what is he eating and how much per day?

I'd find a teaching hospital to take him.

That Vet is an *** and the Specialist sounds
clueless (are they related) . Your bully is old
enough without any issue history to be pumping
his tummy & specialized (crap) food suggestions
    ...pleeeze!

Take him to a teaching facility, they see everything!

    lase update us.

Have you tried adding a digestive probiotic or pumpkin? I can't see that he forgot how to go, if he squats to go, etc. I know you have mentioned seeing multiple vets -- are they all in the same practice? I wonder if his stomach is not contracting as it should to help break down the food, and push it through. Have they put him on any antibiotics to help with motility? @Whiskey

    My whole heart, Tyson.

    Oh my gosh, how awful.
I don't have any experience with this, but hope that everything works out for you and Whiskey.

Where are you located? Maybe someone here can recommend a practice, at the very least someone for regular visits.

    Sorry you're going through this.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

He was on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken, switched to Taste of the Wild Salmon at the suggestion of the first vet and now he's on a Royal Canine high fiber diet (prescription). He is currently on cisapro (sp) to help with bowel movement but its not helping.

Its definitely been a frustrating experience. BTW, I am in Atlanta so any local referrals would be amazing.

    Poor baby ;(

    I send love & prayers to y'all.

There should be a teaching hospital to take him too
in Atlanta. I would take him off the RC crap & the med.
Those Vets DID NOT find the problem so why treat him
    further with that food/med?

Have you tried adding some pure pumkin to his food to see if that helps at all?

Aww poor baby, I hope you can find a vet who can figure out what's wrong with Whiskey. You've already been given great advice. I just wanted to say I'm sorry he's going through this, and he feels better soon. Please keep us posted.

It certainly sounds to me like, as was stated, the vet that castrated him somehow did nerve damage. If you can not get help in your area, Call UT at Knoxville, Tn. Veterinary.
They have seen it all, and if anyone can help, they can. I will pray for you and your boy. @Whiskey So sorry to hear of this. It would be worth the trip to Knoxville for you.
