Murphy had cherry eye surgery today.
The doctor called me a little bit ago and said I could go get him around 3 & that
The surgery went great.
They are trying to keep him comfortable while the anastesia wears off, putting cold compresses
On his eyes as well.

I've got the next couple days off, so I will be able to keep a close eye on him.

Has anyone else had cherry eye corrective surgery??
Can you share your experience with me please :)

He told me I would get drops, Antibiotics, anti inflammatory pills & pain medication.
And to keep his bonnet/cone on for 7 days.
I'm going to continue the cold compresses as well.

They also did blood work, chipped him, & trimmed his nails.
Figured I might as well get it done now.

I will keep you guys updated once his swelling goes down in about a week or so :)

One last thing; on the sheet I filled out asking if I wanted
Him on an IV or pain medication etc
It mentioned something about getting them tattooed with their number
We chipped him today but I was curious if anyone else has their bullies tattooed?
His dad and I have quite a few tattoos between us and our little man would look great with one. Haha
I looked up pictures where it's their number name and a little heart.
We will see.

I'm not sure about the tattoo part, and my babies have had other eye surgeries NOT the cherry eye. I will tag other members… he will probably have to wear the cone of shame for sometime until he has his stitches removed. I wish you guys luck…

My last bully Annie had cherry eye surgery. I remember her wearing the cone and antibiotics (maybe eye drops or ointment?). No cold compresses though, but she could have had them at the vet immediately following the surgery. Annie did great. Really she was back to her normal rambunctious self the next day. The cone was a pain though because she bumped into everything. The other dogs were afraid of her for a while. Once she got used to the cone, she did fine. I don't think I kept the cone on her as long as I was supposed to, but I was home with her, watching. I'm not positive, but I think her stitches were self dissolving, so she didn't have to go back. Her surgery was a great success and her eyes looked beautiful! Sorry I can't remember all the details--it was about 6 or 7 years ago. Good luck with Murphy!

He is definitely not one with the cone yet!!
He doesn't hate it yet, hasn't tried to tear it off.
I don't want to take it off because I know it's going to be a huge fight to get it back on.
So feeding him might be a challenge, well not a challenge just messy!!

He runs into things so I'm trying to keep him away from tables etc.
& he really wants to play with his toys but he gets too wild and I could just see him hurting his eyes.
But he likes to play with my hands so that will have to do for now.

We go back in a week and then again in another two weeks for checkups.
The doctor said he was one of the best dogs waking up from anastesia.

My friend who works there told me her colleague stood over him the whole entire time before surgery and
After surgery to monitor him :)

Going to give him his medicine here soon.
It said it'll make him drowsy, so hopefully he will get some rest!

Thank you guys for all the support!!!

He is definitely back to his old self already and it's only been a few hours :D

He's doing pretty well today.
Slept until about 7 this morning
& napping as I type this :)

One eye is looking really good
The other is a little more swollen-maybe because the eyelid is a little more droopy??
Going to see abut it tomorrow morning-took pictures of it to compare.

I did change out the fabric they had to keep his cone on, too tight and felt itchy.
My husband had an idea to roll up a bandana, so far so good :)

I did start taking the cone off just for him to eat because feeding him by hand was so messy.
He eats so fast he's like a little vacuum!!!
And being outside with his cone, he is like a shovel because he wants to smell everything, so he's scooping up rocks
Etx. Whatever he can get into.

He's taking all of his medication as needed and let's me deep clean his eyes! I'm pretty sure they only
Get really bad after he goes to sleep at night, naps are fine.

Thank you guys for all the love and support-that's why he is doing so good!

Here is a close up picture from this afternoon.image.jpg

One more thing

He has been going pee outside
Since he has been home.
He pooped last night but that was it.

He has eaten twice today and nothing has happened.
He still needs to eat dinner
But do you think the medication is making him constipated??

Its possible. Dexter had this surgery when he was little, and he's as handsome as ever. And what a doll you have there!!!

Yes... Meds will do that, add a tablespoon of pure pumpkin to help him

The next day he was back to his normal self!! :)

One eye looks like it healed perfectly
The other in not sure about.
He has a checkup on Friday and we will see what they say.
Can't wait for his cone to come off. This momma needs some face kisses and playtime without that thing!!!

It's so good to hear how good Murphy is doing! Pretty soon this will all be behind you and your boy will have gorgeous eyes. And good riddance to that cone!!
