Cherry eye surgery on Friday

Hi everyone.
First post & first EB

I've had Murphy for about 7 days now.
He is the smartest puppy I have encountered.
He knows when to potty, when he is done he gets to come back inside.
He is crate trained and is at home in there with all of his Star Wars toys.
He is 17 weeks and the only thing is that he has cherry eye in both eyes.
I have been keeping them lubricated because somehow he nicks them a little &
They will start to bleed.

We had his first vet checkup today.
Shots, wormed again, rabies etc

He has an appointment for his cherry eye surgery on Friday morning
I was very greatful they were able to get him in so soon!
I love the vet we go to, everyone was super helpful and nice. Even
With my two pages of questions I had
( we aren't having children, so I want to do this the right way and take
Care of his every need)

I am just curious what can I expect??

Swelling?
Cone of shame?
I'm sure some sort of ointment/antibiotic

I hope it doesn't pop out again.
I mean I'm not worried about the money I just
Want him to not have to worry about those.

I take him in at 8a.m & they said I could take him home
That afternoon.

Hi and welcome! One of my guys had cherry eye surgery and all he required after was a cone of shame and an eye ointment (or maybe two?). He was tired once we picked him up, but after a night's sleep, he was back to his rambunctious self.

My Annie had cherry eye surgery. The cone was a bummer, but other than that she was fine. We put drops or ointment in her eyes, but I don't remember any swelling to speak of. Her cherry eye never recurred and her eyes looked great! She also had both eyes done.

Cone of shame and eye lubricant. other than that, it's a pretty basic procedure and they don't keep them under for too long.

The things I would ask about are, (and this is anytime a bulldog goes under anesthesia) who's responsible for the anesthesia, do they have experience with putting bulldogs under? Are they prepared to handle emergencies? Like if a dog vomits and aspirates? And who will be watching him when he comes out of anesthesia. Vets that understand the dangers of anesthesia and brachycephalic breeds, always have someone watch them while they're coming out. They never leave them alone.

Do you know how long he will have to wear the cone?
My friend works at the vet so I know she will be by his side the entire time he is there.
Which is a huge relief!!

I've got lubrication drops right now for his eyes.
I am excited to see how different he will look without the cherries!!

Is the vet tacking them into place or removing the lining? If tacking them they do have a chance to fail. Brutus had them in both eyes and had them tacked initially. One failed and he had to have the lining thinned out. The other one held and never popped out again. He should wear the cone for about 2wks. There will be initial swelling. Brutus does not have any dry eye problems

They are tacking it. I wish there was a guarantee but we shall see what happens.
They said they will know once they finally get in there to see if there are any other problems for his eyes.

I have the next 4 days off so I will keep a much closer eye on himView attachment 90222
