Finn was diagnosed with hip dysplasia today. I didn't know he even had it and only found out b/c he was walking oddly this a.m. and then just didn't want to walk all together. The vet also said she'd recommend surgery for him, but for now he's on pain meds and needs to have complete rest x 2wks, then gets re-evaluated. She also said he needs to be on the "lighter" side of the wt. spectrum. I also need to re-start him on his glucosamine/chondroitin.

I wish your Gracie the very best, adanc.

Not sure if you saw this yet but there's an article here written a few yrs ago on hip dysplasia:English Bulldog News Forums - Hip Dysplasia in English Bulldogs

Hi, I'm really sorry for Finn, I hope he gets better. My prayers for him and his recovery. How old is Finn?

I saw the article and it was very helpful information, thanks for sharing.

Thanku. Finn is almost 4 and 1/2 years old. I recall when he was younger that always had a different kind of gait but didn't think much of it. He's always been so active, fast, and pretty athletic for a bulldog. It's really hard seeing him in pain but i'm hoping the meds will help him soon.

Prays and i really hope he gets better soon cali baker.

I wanted to let you know guys that I went to visit another orthopedist because I really had my doubts, the first one made me a very weird call 3 hours after the meeting and he said he will take other x-ray because he wasn't sure if she needed or not surgery, and depending on those digital x-rays we will need to do the surgery or just take meds.

Anyway, I went today to visit other specialist he said he has 13 years of experience in this field, and he said Grace won't need surgery, he thinks she doesn't have hip dysplasia (yet) it might happen in the future, but for the moment only take meds for building strong joints and also if possible swimming so she can develop strong muscles.

It's a very big relief for me and Grace because I really didn't want her to get a surgery so young, so I just wanted to share the experience to anyone with the same problem as me.

PS. Photo attached, Gracey enjoying her new bed because she didn't fit in the other one anymore.

This is great news!! I'm so glad you got a 2nd opinion; it goes to show how important it is to seek other opinions when you feel doubtful about a diagnosis or just want to get more answers. Do you have access to a pool so that Gracie can get the water therapy? I am hoping that once Finn recovers from his injury, he can avoid surgery too by taking supplements and other non-invasive therapies. I didn't know he even had this until he fell on his side.

Thanku for updating us on Gracie adanc!

Thanks for your kind comment.

I'm planning to buy her a pool enough tall so that she can swim, I'm also planning to get her a life jacket because I know bulldogs will sink like a rock in a pool :)

Once I get everything set up I will definitely post some pictures, my bests for Finn and I pray for his prompt recovery.
