Hello everyone. We have had our little guy for about a month now. He is so awesome! Everything has been going well until the the last two days. Yesterday morning (Friday) he woke up and was hacking alot and starting coughing up clear phlem. It got so bad that I had to reach in his mouth and clear it out. We called his breeder and she said that the pollen count has been very high lately and some of her dogs are experiencing the same thing. She suggested one benadryl (25mg) twice daily, some honey, and lemon juice to help. The little man hacked a couple more time throughout the day but nothing really came up.

Well last night was rough. Starting at about 2am he would sleep for a bit, but sounded like he had a VERY stuffy nose, then he would wake up, hack and nothing would come up and then go back to bed.
We would take him out of his cage, he would walk around and be fine (no hacking, wheezing, or anything) so we would put him back to bed and within an hour he is up hacking again. There has not been a change in his appetite or character in any way, he is still his happy stubborn self. I'm just really worried because he is hacking so much and sound like he is really congested through the night. Could this just be allergies? Or do we need to be more concerned?

He has recently been to the vet and the vet said he checked out. He did receive some shots, including the first round of flu shots, so I don't know if this is a negative reaction; however, it's been about a week since the shot so I am thinking that's not it. As a side note: we are NOT to fond of this particular vet and only plan to finish out shot with him and then find a bully specialist. If anyone knows of a bully vet in the Maryland area...please help!

Sorry for the long winded questions, we are just so worried and want our little guy to be healthy. Thank you as always!

If I remember, this is a puppy, right... under 4 months old? What type of crate do you have ... all wire or is it the closed with holes on the top/side and the wire door?

If I am correct, find a new vet now and have him checked just to make sure nothing is starting up, young pups can get pneumonia very quickly from something very simple.

here is our list of member recommended bully vets... there are none for Maryland, but there could be one in a nearby area close to you

We have an all wire crate, but it has a sort of wood top to make it look like a table. We are just feeding him breakfast now and he definitely has no loss of appetite! The closest vet on the list is cherydale in Alexandria, VA. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I'd definitely get a second opinion on it. Even if you have to drive a bit, somethings not right

I do not have direct experience, but I know a few members have used them.. I can not think of the screen names right now.

I grew up in Arlington, and Cherrydale is what we used and my mother-in-law for her pugs. The have a great reputation, but it's been years since I've been… I would definitely check them out. I agree w/the gang your baby needs a second opinion…

:(Thanks everyone for the advice. Cherrydale didn't have anything open today. I've made an appointment with a family vet that's a good distance away, but we trust them so hopefully we will get some answers soon. Finding a good vet is so hard! Well we are off, wish us luck. I hate seeing my little man like this:(

Keep us posted with the results. Praying it's nothing serious & some meds will get him back to normal :)

We just got back from the vet and it seems our little pup has a little irritation in his lungs. The doctor thought it was most likely caused by a combination of high pollen and maybe a passing bug our little guy may have picked up. She gave us some anti-inflammatory medication and we are going to monitor him to make sure it doesn't get worse. He's resting up now and seems to breathing a bit better already.

On another positive note, we are so happy with the vet we took Poogan to see. She handled him with such care and everything was done with the highest of professionalism. Couldn't be happier with the experience. She checked him from head to toe and spent so much time answering all of our questions. The office even squeezed us in with no appointment on a busy Saturday! It was great. Well, here's to hoping our little man rests up and that he's passed the worst of it. Thanks again everyone!

So happy you found a vet that you like, and will take the time to check him over well. I hope the meds help him out and he is well in no time. :)

Great news that you got him checked out and he's doing better! I live in DC and take Ruckus to Pender veterinary center in Fairfax -- they can always work us in and they have a 24 hour emergency care center on site. So if you need s back up vet, keep them in mind. Good luck with your pup!
