Wally went to the groomers yesterday, and he was there for quite a while because the groomer's brought their hairless cat Cleo… I knew that Lily wanted to see her, so I waited till she got home from school to pick him up. Anyhoo last night when I normally sit on the chair to watch a little TV Wally jumps up there to lay next to me. Last night I was rubbing him (like I always do) and I got near his tail, he literally jumped up and tried to snap at me in the face  I immediately made him get down, and he gave me a look of total surprise… I was pissed!!! So when we went to bed last night, he kept getting up and growling… running around this was several times last night. I'm assuming his tail pocket is bothering him, but BOY the way he was acting yesterday quite frankly shocked me.

I've never had a bully w/a tail pocket issue… so is this normal behavior when it's bothering them?!! I know he was tired because I don't think he can sleep at the groomers in a cage (God forbid the KING… Lol). They also said that he is SHEDDING horribly, and we have noticed that too. I hope this is just he's blowing out his winter coat and not some allergy issue :(

Yes- that's what happened with Blue. Took him to our vet and she said sprain, took him to our specialist and she said infection. Put him on antibiotics for 3 weeks, cleaned him out and told us to use mal-a-ket wipes twice a day. That's what we did and a few days into it he was fine again.

It took two of us to clean him though. Chris would hold him like they do at the vets (where the dogs stand and the vet tech has one arm across the chest and the other under), while I cleaned his pocket.

I don't think any of mine has tail pockets even... I'm not even sure I know what it is exactly:unsure: I'm sorry he acted out, it really isn't a nice feeling:( Hope it's an easy fix. I bet it's not really an option digging in there if he snapped if you just got close... Maybe the groomers cleaned there and hurt him somehow or he's sore?

I remember your thread about that… Ugh my hubby isn't here to help hold him down. I guess I will head to the vets next week :(

I was thinking that too, but they never mentioned him acting out there. In fact they said he was very quiet and sweet… I guess he saved the drama for his momma… Lol

Could be that it was still wet for the bath and it is itchy... keeping the area dry is key to avoiding any issues, which is not easy

That is very possible… they only use a fan on him because he's petrified of the blow-dryer :giggle: He is way more OCD than any bully that we've ever had… LMAO!!!

I think he acted out because he is in pain. brutus does that also. Im afraid if he is showing signs of pain already, next week might been too late for the vet. Can your son hold him while you try to clean it out? You might head off an infection if you can get a jump on it.

Ok I just barely was touching around his tail and he went for me again… called the vets office, and of course they are closing now. My vet (who is beyond awesome) is bringing me some metacam for me to pick up at her house to give him for pain, she's headed to Nashville. She said give him that and then see if I can take a look at what's going on back there, obviously she wants me to keep in touch w/her this weekend to see how he is reacting. I just called the groomer's to see if they cleaned his anals or if he was acting strange w/them yesterday… they said he was a perfect angel  Maybe he just has a sprained tail or something…

Is Wally trying to lick his tail or doing what I call the "whip around" where it looks like he's chasing his tail ? this is what Finn would do when he had a tail infection. Seems odd that the groomer didn't detect any issues around the tail area but then this happens when he got home. Is he acting normal otherwise, like being playful? Hoping mr.Wally feels better very soon!

Usko don't let me clean his tail when it's not good and will do just that. He only growls like grazy for the hubby. Do you have a table were you can lift him? A lot of times they're not acting out when they're up on a table, so you could get it cleaned????

You know now that you mention it he DOES that… the whip around at times, but he always let's me clean his tail. I usually only do it once a week because we've never had an issue… NOW I'm wondering if this has been an issue and I haven't been paying attention to it. I'm so consumed w/his eyes lately, I haven't noticed his bottom :( I'm wondering if maybe they injured his tail yesterday (by accident) or if just got moist in there and now it's more irritating than normal. He's playing like normal, just went after his varsity ball… but he does seem to be a little restless. I'm picking up that Metacam in a bit here…

I could put him on the coffee table (it's already scratched up to pieces from Bella) but I want to give him the pain meds first.
