Ruthie and I are headed to the vet this morning :(
I just had them at the vet last week for their checkup too.
For the past couple days Ruthie has been scratching at her ear. No big deal, she gets chronic ear infections in the ear she was scratching so I used her ear drops, kept it clean and gave her benedryl for allergies. Well this morning, i checked it, looked clean, not red, I even told her it looked good. I left the house at 6:45 came back at around 8:30 to this...
PART_1429536790341_20150420_093235.jpg

it's so swollen, pussy, bleeding. I cleaned it and put some oinment on it and called the vet. It looks like a hematoma, and the only reason i know that is because my parents dog Sydney had one and it looked just like this. I hope it's not and she just scratched it to hard, but either way, i'm taking her in.
My sweet girl :(

Oh no! Are you able to see closer to tell if its possibly from a blood vessel? Sometimes you can see bumps of blood below the skin... Since you mentioned Hematoma. I sure hope she just scratched it bad, and it started bleeding. Tyson scratches his face and makes it bleed sometimes too! Saying a prayer for Ruthie, that its nothing serious, and she'll be just fine once it heals up.

ooh.. poor girl. It probably looks worse than it is. Antibiotics should clear it up.

I also think she probably kept scratching at it.

THANK YOU :)
I can't tell if it's a blood vessel. It's so swollen and red/purple at this point. I'm trying my best not to bother it either cause i'm irritating her:ashamed:

Aww poor Baby, I don't know what a hematoma looks like, but maybe she just scratched it so much that she's scratched the tissue and irritated until it bled. The vet will be able to diagnose it, and I'm sure with some antibiotics and some cream, it will heal up soon. I hope it's nothing serious and she feels better soon. Sending hugs and prayers to you both. Don't worry, she'll be okay.

My Frenchie is prone to ear infections. Last time the vet used the syringe of meds, with the wax plug, and (knock on wood) it's been over a year and a half since then.
Probably is a hematoma-from scratching. Hope she feels better soon.:smoochwink:

That is how things are with Ruthie. Nothing is gradual, it's all or nothing.
She hasn't touched it all morning since i've been home. She might know she's going to get it looked at.

Just got back from the vet. He thinks she got bit or stung by something, had an allergic reaction to it and now it's some sort of hot spot. She got 2 shots, 1 cortisone and 1 antibiotics and 2 sets of pills.
he said its definitely not a hematoma since it's on the surface of her skin(i swear he hates me and my diagnosis and how overprotective i am of her). She should be good in a few days...fingers crossed.

I'll give those hugs and kisses to her!

We even made it out of the house without the boy!!! It's so odd to do things with them one on one now. I said to Ruthie in the car, this is weird, we don't hang out just us alone anymore.
I'm pretty sure the vet was happy that Brutus wasn't with us because when we had him there last week he terrorized the place.

Oh NO… I'm so sorry to hear about Ruthie's ear, but I'm glad you got to see the vet right away. It's a good thing you got her in to because she could of broken out in hives… poor baby!!! Sending hugs & kisses to your sweet girl, hopefully she can rest up this afternoon… :drawheart:
