Vegas in on Heartguard Plus once a month since a pup, My son was over today when I was giving Vegas his chewable pill always on the 2nd of each month. My son says dogs don't need them in the winter months (Remember I live in Fl. so we don't get a deep freeze) Do you give your bully's meds all year round or just spring/summer/fall months? I think all year round here in Florida and will continue doing so. What do you think?

Heartworm is spread by mosquitos. Mosquitos are out less in winter and maybe not out all in some places which is probably what he meant. Since you live in a warm weather state like me I would give it year around. I worry because the symptons start to show once heartworm gets in the later stages so I just don't take a chance, don't want it to be too late once it is diagnosed!

TessaAndSamson, Exactly... that is what I told my son, Mosquitoes!! and since we do not ever have a deep freeze I think they can still be around, PLUS I have a pond in my back yard which mosquitoes love water, that is why he will always all year round get his meds, better safe than sorry.

Yep! You need year round protection there. We stop giving them in December and will start up again in March or April. The vet will send us a card when it's time to restart.

We live in California and I was told that stopping the medication in the winter is OK, this is NOT CORRECT. If you stop the medication in the winter then your Bully will have to be tested for heart worm before you can resume the medication. Any good vet will not give heart worm medication without testing.

NOT TRUE!!! feed them to him year round. We use interceptor and i give it every 4 weeks, so there is a consistent amount of medication.
