Our 9 month old was diagnosed for the second time with demodectic mange a little over 2 weeks ago (he was previously diagnosed about 3 months ago when he was losing hair on his back). This time, the area above and below his right eye is very swollen, bleeds occasionally, and is very muscus-y. He just finished a 2 week prescription of Cephalexin and is on Ivermectin for 1 month. We've been cleaning the area with baby wipes. Is there anything else we can use around his eyes? Any other suggestions?

Poor baby, sounds like you have it handled. They usually get that mange from a low immune system, so I would give him a spoonful of plain yogurt every day and think about a food change, maybe a better food, plus a good supplement to give him, like NuVet Plus, or HardyPet Complete.

Agree with David.... you could also use witch hazel on a cotton pad to clean the area

Oh man… I'm so sorry, Wally had demodex mange but he never had it around his eyes. He was getting several small spots on his torso so we decided to go for the dips… and knock on wood we haven't seen anymore spots on him. The vet did give me some ointment called Goodwinol to use on the small areas, but you would need to consult w/your vet because I'm not sure if you could use this so close to his eye.

@bretkelly You can get a tube of NuStock. Follow directions on tube. Rub it in real good-but don't get it IN the eye. It will take care of it. Get it at feed store or online.

How did the Nustock work out?

I ended up taking Brett to the vet coz there were more bald spots that showed up. We did the medicated shampoo and dips plus antibiotics. Now he's mange free. It was a lot of work and patience. But if u have only couple of bald spots. Nu stock is great. I used it for everything. Hair even grew back :)
