Hi new to the forum , just want to get help making the right decision took my 7 year old bulldog to the vet for a check up and the vet recommended she had a soft palate surgery. he said it would be risky at age 7 but would help her breathing . she seems to throw up her food when eating at times not all the time and gets exhausted fast but other than that she's a very healthy dog

Welcome..... how much she is impacted by the palate? You stay she sometimes throws up and is tired quickly, that might be reason to do it. It is hard to say without seeing how she does just getting around and such. I had this done for two of my bullies but they were both only 2 yrs old and both of them had sleep apnea (stop breathing) with it.... after the procedure they both gained energy and no longer had issues eating

Hi and WeLcOmE:) It's so hard to say what's right or wrong and I understand it must be a difficult decision to make, especially since she's a bit older. Please keep us posted.

Castor went through that kind of surgery a few months ago and he's like a new dog now, so for him it was definitely the right thing to do. However, he was only 1.5 yrs old at the time. I think it's important that you talk to a veterinary surgeon who is well experienced in this kind of surgery and who will be able to assess any potential risks for dogs at that age. Good luck and, like the others say, please keep us posted.
