The breeder finally called me back after her vet looked over Boris's records... She is extremely apologetic and has offered me a new puppy, but she requires that I surrender Boris and she will take care of him. She has recommended we wait until he is fully grown to see if he grows into his rear hips. She has extended our 1 year health guarantee to 2 years for his hips and we will just take it day by day. If his condition worsens I will contact her and start the process for the adoption. I'm glad to know she'll work with us, but I'm also heartbroken. She stated we would be welcome to come visit anytime, but that would be hard on both of us :(

Oh no, please don't tell me you are going to get rid of Boris. :nope::cry:I'm going to pray for Boris, that he grows into his hips. I hate to see him have to leave his family. I wish you were closer, I would so take him. Please don't give up on him. He just needs a little more attention... but it is very common for the breed. I have a friend who had one with the same issues, she lived to almost 9 yrs old! Granted, she moved slow, etc... but she got around & lived a great happy life.

Why would you give him up since Trupanion is going to cover it?

Also, according to OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) out of 636 bulldogs tested 72% have hip dysplasia to some degree. Orthopedic Foundation for Animals
Unfortunately, it's normal in the breed. Most just go undiagnosed.

We are covered, but we've seen all of the Bulldog specialists (3 vets) and 2 orthopedic centers in our area and none of them are willing to perform a surgery due to the severity of his dysplasia. We have one last hope with a vet far north in Bemidji and we are going to take a road trip next weekend to see if they can do anything for us. At this time Boris is limited to absolutely no climbing or running (which is extremely hard to keep under control) as his rear hips are completely out of the socket when he's standing. I feel absolutely terrible for him as he's starting to fall over a lot and bites and growls at his rear legs. We have him on some pain meds and it's helping, but he can't be a puppy and its tearing us apart :(

Poor baby, this breaks my heart. I really hope & pray he starts to grow into his hips. I have tears just thinking about it. Thank you for being a good parent, and for not giving up yet. I would travel long & far for Tyson, so I can just imagine how much it hurts ... just know we are all praying for sweet Boris...what about therapy? Water therapy, and supplements? Natural anti-inflammatories to help? We give Tyson these bc of his arthritis, and it seems to really help.

We have our first appointment with the water therapy center on Feb 25th and will see how it goes. Boris has been on Hip and joint supplements since he was 4 months old and I've recently switch over to another brand that has MYM in it to help with fighting off swelling and arthritis. He's also getting Vitamin E supplements as well to help keep those tendons and ligaments STRONG! Thanks for all the kind words and I'll keep everyone updated on his condition.

I'm also trying to work with my landlord to see if I can get out of my current apartment as carrying Boris down the stairs is not an easy task. He is potty trained with pee pads and that's been working great, but i want him to be able to go sniff stuff and hoard all sorts of sticks from time to time. Luckily its been freezing cold up here and his outside time is limited :)

Hearing all this is great, Boris is very lucky to have such wonderful parents who are going above & beyond for him! The water therapy should be very very beneficial to him, I hope he likes it! Please do keep us updated, as I will be praying for that sweet boy, and I just know he is going to do great! Everytime I think of Boris, I see him all squeezed & cuddled up in his little bitty baby bed.

I sure will :D I'm really excited to see him in the water. Though i fear his love for drinking water will consume him in a pool ^^

@Enjoimangos
Just wanted to check in and see how Boris did with his water therapy? How's he feeling?

We go in for water therapy on Wednesday of this week. I'm not sure if he'll go in the water on day one as it's an evaluation to discuss our goals with Boris, but I'll be sure to update everyone! We are really hoping he'll turn for the better. He's been doing much better these last few days with our home exercises, but he's also been biting a lot more at his rear thighs so I'm worried he's uncomfortable. We are going out to the orthopedic center today to meet with a surgeon as he wanted to see Boris in person as to just seeing Xrays. I'm hoping for some good news!
