    Default Tail amputation recommendation

    Hello

I am from central Massachusetts with a 11 month old English bulldog. This is our second one and he is our first puppy. He keeps getting the tail infections and our vet has said he has one of the tightest tail folds she's seen. They said they recommend amputating it and have a specialist surgeon who comes in once a month and can do it. I would rather look around too and find someone who specializes in English bulldogs.

can anyone recommend a vet in the area who specializes in English bulldog or who has done this surgery on theirs? Thanks a bunch and enjoy the holidays.

Hi @spenca7, one thing you might want to do is talk to the surgeon your vet recommended to ask her/him how many tail amputations they've done and if they've done surgery on EB's before. If you're not satisfied or feel comfortable w/their response then hopefully the link above that Christine sent will help u find a vet to do the surgery or ask your vet for another recommendation.

Good luck with this. I know once your bully gets the surgery done, he will feel incredibly better. Keep us updated!

It's a very very touchy surgery. If done successfully....it will be the best thing you can do for your bulldog. We had Vegas's tail amputated at 8 months old due to the same issues. The best choice in my opinion.

If done wrong....it can lead to paralysis and/or incontinence.

I agree that you should interview the doctor and make sure he's done this operation before and he's worked with bulldogs under anesthesia.

Maybe call the local bulldog rescue in the area and ask them what vet they use and if they've had this surgery done on any of their rescues.
