Our 4 month old puppy hurt her knee. She either partially tore her knee ligament or broke off a small part of her knee cap that holds on her ligament. The vet that looked at her is getting our normal vet to look at the x-rays as well as a specialist. We will must likely have to take her back in to the vet for the specialist to see her. As of now if no surgery is needed the vet said to keep her in her crate for 6 weeks. Has anyone had to do this? 6 weeks seems like such a long time.

I used to work in a specialty vet clinic and it was very common for 6-8 weeks of cage rest. It's much better than putting them through surgery. My boxer had to be on cage rest before, it was hard to do but it really did help her. Sorry your baby is hurt, hope she feels better soon!!

aww this is so sad :[ but yes it does seem common. I understand, I would be heartbroken doing it to. Just know, it's for the best though. She will be better in no time :]

Yes, it IS so hard to do to them but it is VERY important you do
exactly as they tell you and keep her from running, jumping, etc.
I've had to crate both bullies I've owned before, it takes about 2
months to heal. Praying no surgery needed, it's also a LONG &
difficult recuperation :(

6 weeks is long, but if it avoids surgery it is best. What we did for our guy (TWICE), was made spare bedroom into a big doggie bed. Took out anything he could jump up on, (bed, chairs, etc) and place the matress on the floor with pillows and blankets.... he did everything in that room but potty, which we carried him in and out -- no steps either. Nitschke was 55 lbs at the time, so it was a mjor workout for us. But, we just could not handle a crate 24/7 for 6 weeks.... baby-gate the door and they can still see and interact, but it limits the movement/activity for Utley is all that matters.

GOOD LUCK

I'm sorry to hear this but I agree that anything to avoid surgery would be best. Six weeks seems long but it will go by quickly. I hope Utley feels better quickly.

Love the idea of a puppy room is you can do it. The other option may be a x-pen which gives them mush more room but still controls activity. Praying that your pup won't need surgery. Six weeks sounds like forever but recuperation from surgery is harder.
