Hi Everybody,

I know I don't post very often on here and for that I am sorry :( My Leroy is just going through a rough time right now and I didn't know if any of you have been through anything similar or not and I just thought I would share and see if anybody may have any advice or anything. I may be over-reacting
but here goes:

So Leroy has been having issues every so often with throwing up and or reguritating food. There were sometimes too where his stomach would be making a gurgling noise too. Sometimes it seemed like he was having issues almost daily. other times it was like he would go a couple weeks, be perfectly fine and then all of a sudden he would be getting sick again. Also we saw his first head tremors back in June 2013 (scary! ) but we did our research on them and while they don't freak me out so much anymore I feel really bad for the little guy and do try to distract him with a treat and lots of cuddles when this happens. it seems to occur once every couple of months or so. I have changed his food a handful of times (and yes a slow transition every time) assuming that it's just not the right food (have tried Fromm's, Royal Canin, and Nature's Vareity Instinct), have taken him to the vet to get advice about his allergies and about his food. I would get medicine for his allergies and really no answers about his food and stomach issues. The vets would tell me to feed him the amount that's on the bag (which I know is usually too much and when I have tried to do that he ends up with diarreha). Here the past few days he was vomiting up pretty much everything he ate, also had diarreha too. He did have an appetite though so after about 12 hours of letting his stomach rest I fed him small amounts of the bland diet (rice and ground sirloin) every couple of hours or so. Thursday evening he seemed to be doing better. but when I went to work on Friday my family told me that he was vomiting and
had liquid diarreha while I was at work. So I made an appt for him to go to the vet's on Saturday because I just thought that this had gone on way too long. I was hoping they would give me some medicine for him and tell me he had some type of flu or something. Well when we got there and I put him on the scale it said he only weighed 39 lbs! He is almost 2! He was 45 lbs the last time we went which was 03/15/14 so in less than a month he lost 5 lbs! I thought that was crazy! I was thinking that him being sick for a few days shouldn't have made him lose 5 lbs. when he was 45 lbs the vet did say he was a little
underweight and that we needed to get that weight up. I was trying to feed him a little more to do that and also giving him a couple more peanutbutter kongs per week. anyway, long story short here the vet said he was worried b/c of the 5 lb weight loss and the fact that it looks like he lost muscle tone too.
He wanted to do some blood tests b/c one set of Leroy's lymph nodes is also swollen. so they said they would call me back today with the results. Leroy seems to be feeling better, I have not seen any more vomit, his stools are getting firmer and we even went for a walk today. The vet called me and told me that Leroy's globulin levels are a little high and that this could mean a lot of things. one of the things he mentioned was cancer. but he is not sure so he said he will have to talk to some specialists vets he knows and get back with me tomrrow. I did my own research online about this, it says there are a range of reasons why a dog's globulin levels could be high (allergies, stress, dehydration, CANCER,...etc). So basically I am scared and I am just waiting for the results. Leroy is just too young to be so sick, makes me sad to think about him possibly having cancer. if anybody has any input or advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks

I don't have any experience with this, but please know we're all worrying with you. Has the vet done a stool test yet? I would think that would be one of the first things he'd do. Like you said, globulin levels being high could mean a lot of things, and we're going to pray that it's something treatable.

My boys' stomachs gurgle when they're hungry, so that part seem to be normal. The head tremors I wouldn't worry so much as well, every couple of months are normal.

If the vet calls back tomorrow and says he still doesn't know what's going on, I'd look for another. From experience, some vets are just more knowledgeable and can pin point what to look for and what needs to be done.

Shannon, I'm so very sorry to hear about your baby Leroy. I don't have any bully experience w/cancer, but we had a dog growing up that got a cancerous tumor. I was really young at the time, so all I remember is she had surgery to remove the tumor and it came back. I would say try NOT to panic until you get confirmation from your specialist… this could really be anything at this point. We will be here to support you every step of the way, so just HANG in there. Please keep us posted!!! :assurred:

Oh, Shannon, I'm sorry Leroy and you are going through such a rough time right now. All this would make me worry too. Try to take things one step at a time; let the vet talk to the specialists and do a further work up on Leroy. If still no real answers then you should think of finding another vet. I keep hearing about "holistic veterinary medicine" and wonder if you have a holistic vet in your area? If so, it may be worthwhile to ask their opinion on Leroy's condition as I've heard many people have great outcomes w/such vets. In the meantime, I'm saying a prayer for Leroy and will keep both of you in my thoughts.

Shannon I am so very sorry you have to deal with this and not knowing the answer, I myself do not have any experience in cancer with dogs but just wanted you to know I am praying it is just a minor thing with Leroy and that all of us here on EBN are there with you and anytime you need any support we are right here.

Shannon please don't panic and think the worse until you get an answer I too would go to another vet if your vet can not give you answers this will also help you with your worrying.

Please keep us posted. to you and Leroy

From what you are describing it sounds like there is many other possibilities so don't lose hope yet.

First thing that comes to mind is an obstruction, which would explain a lot of the symptoms. The weight loss of 5lbs could also partially come from dehydration, with all of the vomiting.

I know it's been going on a long time but my boy threw up a head of a toy about a month after it went missing. A friend had exploratory surgery to find several different items in the stomach that had been there a while. Alice Kable had a bully who went forever with one undetected.

I would get an ultrasound done if it were me. Seems a little early to assume cancer, although it's a possibility it could also be other things too.

I am sorry you are going through this and hope everything works out. I have had several dogs that have had cancer and other that we though had cancer but ultimately did not. I am a little surprised that your vet brought it up without the evidence to back it up. I am guessing he was just putting out a possibility which would scare the heck out me as well.

With that said while I am not a vet the symptoms sure sound like an obstruction to me. I would ask that an ultrasound and/or barium xray be performed to rule it out.

I'm so sorry you and your little boy is going through this. Fingers crossed it's not cancer. Am no expert like the people above but gurgling, vomitting and diarrhea-has his pancreas been check? I'm just throwing it out there just incase the vets miss something.

Good thoughts your way and to your boy! hope they find out soon whats causing all this!

Hi Shannon, so sorry you're going through this with Leroy, and I agree with others comments. I know it's hard not to worry, because we always will, and we tend to think the worse before we know. My hubby is going for a cancer test tomorrow morning and we've been waiting two weeks, it's been the longest two weeks ever, and although we're praying and thinking positive, the fact that the doctor said it could be cancer has us worried and freaked out. I hope it's nothing serious, but I also agree it could possibly be an obstruction, and an ultrasound, or scope would rule that out. The weight loss is a worry as well, and if your vet can't find the cause of his symptoms, then I would look for a second opinion with a specialist. Sending love, hugs and prayers that Leroy is okay, and it's nothing serious. Please keep us posted.

I'm sorry! I don't know much about this. All I can say is don't assume the worse just yet. I know easier said than done. As mommies we always fear the worse. Good luck and hang in there.

Hi Shannon --- so sorry you are both going through such an ordeal. Have you thought about a second opinion with a differnet vet or animal hospital? Seems so odd for the vet to jump to cancer so quickly without really knowing that is the case.

I have no experience with cancer in a pet, but will be praying for all to be well and whatever is bothering you sweet boy to be treatable and short term.

Like everyone here, I'm concerned your Vet is missing something
and unless has done a lot of tests should not be saying a dx of ANY
THING based on what you've told us. Go to a animal hospital, they
have the equipment for lots of different testing & see a lot of stuff.
If it's obstruction, time is of the essence. Please update us, sending
hugs & prayers!

I agree with this 100000%. There's a very real possibility it could be a partial obstruction. That's why the vomiting isn't constant, and he's still able to poop.

We just went through this and the x-ray didn't show anything so we insisted on an ultrasound (but we knew he ate a squeaker) and there it was, the squeaker.

The first thing I would insist on is an ultrasound to rule out a partial obstruction.

When first reading....I was thinking obstruction too. It's amazing what these monsters manage to put into their mouths even when we are looking. Little stinkers is what they are. I agree with what has been suggested above. Ask about the possibility of an obstruction.
