Hi, everyone. Just joined this forum and have a question to ask. I'm from the US but am now living in Mexico. Where veterinarians are hard to find. Not in the sense that they are scarce but a lot are very "iffy" my female had demodectic mange back in September and did well with antibiotic and ivermectin for 6weeks. Skin scrape was done and everything went well. So we stopped treatment (vets advice). She has since relapsed and is losing a lot of hair. So we thought maybe allergies. Grain free definetly helped firm her stool. But she was never really itchy. So now we went to a specialist (dermatologist) and he wants her back on ivermectin for a few months, with a skin scrape every four weeks and antibiotics for 3 weeks. I will do what he says to get my baby better again. My question is that he recommends me put her on ivermectin called IVOMEC...he says that is the only "good" one out there but sells me a bottle of 50 ML for 350 dollars. Would there be an equivalent just as good, cause I feel he is charging way to much for that ivermectin...that is the problem here at times. When they know you are American....they charge you quadruple what they would anyone else (been through it many times here). He says the other brands of ivermectin don't contain the same thing and are too weak?

Ivomec can be bought at a feed store here-50 ml bottle for $32.00 US. He certainly IS ripping you off. Noromectin.jpgThis product is the same as Ivomec-the patent ran out on Ivomec, and now other companies can sell it. I get it on Jefferslivestock.com I don't know if you can have it shipped to Mexico, or maybe it is very $$
in Mex. Check out feed stores, if there are any.

Hi there, welcome to EBN!

I agree that sounds like a rip off! :(

Sounds like her immune system is not fighting the mites either, what food is she currently eating? Probiotics as well as other supplements and oils can really help boost the immune system, since she is having skin issues, a salmon oil or coconut oil would be something to start right away to help, which you should be able to find hopefully no matter where you live?

The problem in food is that there are very limited options. Everyone thinks royal canon here is the best, but I know better...I could only find a supplier who gets 4health whitefish and potato which is what they are now eating....not sure if that is better or worse? Salmon oil or coconut oil where can I find that? We have an HEb and Walmart here, but they don't have all the vitamin shelf here like they do in the states. It's so hard finding things here. I've been looking everywhere for Fromm with ZERO luck.....and I know the ivermectin he's wanting to sell me is way over what he would charge anyone else.....I keep running into the same problem and am desperate!

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do I use the coconut or salmon oil if I can find it? I have some pills they gave me that you squeeze on their food...it contains the omegas....

You put Salmon oil, or coconut oil on the food, also. Pure coconut oil.

I know this an older post, but as far as the 4health brand we have been feeding our Ollie that for around 7months, the entire time we've had him. He has done fabulous with it, and it's always been the whitefish and potato, until I got tired of the fish smell and they started carrying a duck, and a pork flavor...He loves the duck...anyhow it may not be a 5star food but for us it has worked well and he hasn't had any issues from the food!

Hi, has her thyroid been checked? Hypothyroidism also loses hair and darkened skin. Hows her appetite? Is she ALWAYS hungry? Also a sign of Thyroid imbalance. Just putting it out there, it might not even be mange.
