2 Weeks ago my 6 year old bully had her first ear infection. Her Vet prescribed her Easotic and and told me to use it for 4 days..... That was it. Almost 2 weeks later I noticed my dog was "ignoring my commands." Now she is COMPLETELY DEAF!!! We took her back to the vet and they said this is a serious but uncommon side effect of the medication..... WHY DIDNT MY VET DISCLOSE THIS TO ME BEFORE!!!!! They don't know if she will ever regain hearing again. I'm trying to figure out if I should flush her ears out with saline? HELP?!?!?

Oh geez, Lea, I'm so sorry to hear this! So the vets aren't sure if this is temporary and may resolve on its own? is she now deaf in both ears? I don't have experience with this but I know some folks will come along to provide some feedback soon.

Thanks Cali! She has a small amount of hearing in her left ear (5%). But they said its impossible to know if her hearing will return. But since her eardrums are still intact it's a positive sign. It could take months for her hearing to return if at all. The vet said only time will tell.

So sorry to hear this!! The vet SHOULD have told you about a possible side effect! He shouldn't even have used that meds, if THAT was a possibility! If it was two weeks ago-and you gave it for four days, the last dose would have been 10 days ago. It doesn't seem like flushing the ears now would do any good. I am sorry, I don't have experience with this problem. Can you see in her ears-are they red and perhaps there is swelling? Perhaps a few drops of vinegar, as they do for "swimmer's ear?" I am so sorry-Hopefully someone else here may have an idea.

Manydogs- her ear that was infected is little red but the vet said the infection was gone... I'm almost afraid to put anything in her ears because I don't want to cause anymore damage. We are contacting an ear specialist vet tomorrow and seeing if they have any advice.

I will be praying for your Stella and you. I don't blame you for not wanting to take a chance on putting anything else in her ears. Hope the ear spec. will have a remedy, and be hopeful. Prayers:pray::pray::pray:

I think that's a very wise idea, Lea, to seek medical attention from an ear specialist. I'm hoping and praying that Stella's hearing loss is reversible. Please do let us know and keep us posted on what the ear vet has to say!

Hi Lea, sorry I don't have any experience with this, or any suggestions for you. I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through this with Stella, and I agree with the above comments and your decision to seek a second opinion from a specialist. I hope you get some positive answers and the deafness is temporary and reversible. Sending love, hugs and prayers for you and Stella that she is okay. Please keep us posted on what the specialist says. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

Hi Lea- im so sorry to hear this , you can also ask ear specialist to perform a Baer test -its a type of hearing test for dogs -he will be able to tell you is your dog 100% deaf or can hear some tones
My girl Shy is 100% deaf -so if you get the worst news (and i hope its only temporary ) feel free to drop me a message -i try and give you some pointers for re-training xxx
I will keep your baby in my thoughts xxx
