Hello everybody.I own a male 3 months old bully and I have read in some forums for arthritis prevention. Some say that you should give your puppy some pills with chondroitine for arthritis prevention.I asked my vet and she said that is too early ,and we should run a dysplasia test in the 5 months before we give him something.Do you know sth about that?I want the best for my bully and I'm a little worried

:welcome4:Hi and welcome to EBN. Bully is super cute. I don't have any experience with arthritis in dogs, and we don't use Chrondroitin with our two guys, but I would agree with your vet in that I think Bully may be to young at only 3 months old to be worried about arthritis yet. As long as he's getting a good quality puppy food, he should be getting enough nutrients to supply him with proper growth and development. When he gets older, about 6 or 7 months old, you can switch him to a good quality adult dog food and add some natural supplements. We give our guys 2Tbsp. Of plain unsweetened yogurt to their morning kibble, and we give them 1 Tbsp. of salmon oil in their evening kibble, plus they get 1 Tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in their drinking water everyday. If when he's older you want to revisit adding Chrondroitin or other supplements, you can consult with your vet and do your research as to what supplements are good or needed. I don't mind giving my guys the supplements I do, because they are all natural and healthy. and so not dangerous.

We have had Harlea on HardyPet Complete since the day we got her and have no issues. It contains amino acids, vitamins and holistic compounds to promote healthy joint, skin, coat, digestion and immune system. Others here use NuVet which is just as good.

For now I give him proplan for puppies salomon ,which is low protein food,i give him a teaspoon of yogurt every day ,a teaspoon of applevinegar in his water ,and a carrot every 2-3 day in order to play for his teeth.I will start to give him 1-2 eggs per week. When he grows a little bit older I will give him a better kiddle with more protein ,maybe orijen 6 fish.

Welcome to the site and I agree with your vet. I wouldn't worry about it until he get much older.

I started giving Blue a Glucosamine supplement when he was 6 months, my vet said it wouldn't do much good at that age, needs to be a little older.
He's now 13 months and still getting it but I switched him to Cosequin DS. She thinks it's the best one out there and gives it to her dogs.

I think between 3 and 6 months you could supplement with calcium. We ground up eggshells using a mortar and pestle and mixed it with plain cream cheese and put it in a kong a few times a week. Lola also ate a hard boiled egg once a day for lunch so we had many eggshells to spare. Lola is now almost 3 and had a limp for about 10 days. We started giving her 250mg glucosamine and 200mg chondroitin once per day but we don't know whether it helps or not. others swear by it in their older bullies and, as a researcher working in arthritis field, i believe them.
