Even before reading the following article, I decided I was going to get Blue titer tested before he gets anymore shots.
I've always wondered if his skin allergies were the result of his vaccines, or at the very least, they contributed to the issue.

Considering all the health problems our bullies have, I think this article is a must read.

Thank you Whitney, (my meet up groups organizer) for posting it.

Some here are familiar with chumley's story last July. He was given a 3 yr rabies shot by mistake with the vet not realizing he had one less than a year prior to that. The next day he developed spots of hair loss on his head that turned into big red bleeding sores within a week. The vet claimed it was a coincidence which I am 100% sure it was not. It took 2 antibiotics and then steroid treatment to clear it up. Before this shot he was allergic to nothing that I knew of. Never a skin issue or itching problem or reaction to any food that was given to him. Since then he's had constant skin issues..I'm convinced this shot weakened his immune system. I will never subject to him to any vaccination whatsoever in the future. I finally convinced the vet to write up an exemption from State law for the rabies vaccine. its funny I went to a "bulldog" specialist" after the incident who swore he never saw a rabies reaction in his 30 yrs in the business. I googled it and found loads of them. This article is definitely a must read! Thank you for posting it.

I remember what happened to Chumley. I remember reading it and being angry for you.
Did you ever find a good vet? I've been to the place in Staten Island that everyone's raved about (where the "bulldog vet Dr. Kinnear" worked) and they are very knowledgeable about bullies.

Regarding the article, I trust it because the study was conducted by a reliable source (Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine).

Blue had a skin reaction to either his rabies shot or Frontline (first time we used it). I'm not sure which it was as both were around the same time. He also lost hair and developed a rash.

I'm not against vaccines at all. But I thought it was interesting that the article stated how vaccinating prior to 6 months can cause so many issues.

Blue's having his yearly exam on Jan. 29th, and his boosters are due in March/April.
I've emailed this article to my vet, and will discuss his boosters with her when she sees him in January. Like I said, I'm going the titers route prior to anymore shots.

Thank you so very much for this very informative & timely, well researched
article.

This is happening to PEOPLE too and as a woman suffering from several auto
immune diseases and going into years of research to help myself (as most of
my doctors & specialists could not) it certainly was eye opening (and life
changing) to learn the truth.

Too much of the studies done are funded by these drug companies whose bottom
line is 'sell the drug' for max profit and not what is best for people/pets. A lot of
education is funded by these same companies so the doctors/vets are not learning
the truth therefore many are really ignorant of these facts.

Excellent information!! There is also different combinations of vaccines. I use a specific kind of vaccine, it's a little more expensive but yields less side effects. I get it from A to Z vet supply and it's called NEO Par and NEO Vac. I also give shots every 1.5 years to two years rather than once a year, except in young puppies.

Thank you very much for the info. I always suspect something about those vaccination shots that had been given to my poor bully. I am starting, a few months ago, that it might be the constant cause of allergies for my bully every year. Howie gets Portobello vaccine every year because he occasionally attends day care. I am seriously thinking of stopping all vaccines together. I myself is developing allergies that I never had before. I have been getting flu shots for a few years now. I am planning to stop for myself too.

I also am wary of annual vacs and get titres done for the boys. Their last ones show that they still have the antibodies from their previous vacs. I'm also very thankful that the city (and province) accepts titres for rabies.
