Re: WORRIED… Ugh!!!

I just got back from the specialist, and I'm afraid it's bad news :(
Winston has another ulcer in his right eye from scratching it, and she actually put a contact in to help it heal. As soon as she put the contact in there the swelling went down in his eye… Not only is the eyelid turning internally to cause irritation, but he also has the inner eyelashes that are irritating the eyes. At this point surgery is imminent :*( I go back in a week so she can re-check his eyes, and then we can schedule the surgery. She did give me a name of an allergy specialist in Nashville to go see, but now matter how much testing is done it's NOT going to alleviate the fact that his lashes need to be removed.

He has the cone of shame on, and I brought home a ton of meds…
Zyrtec, Rimadyl, Ofloxacin, Neo Pol Bacit, & GenTeal

He seems miserable, so if anyone has any suggestions for this stupid cone that would be great!!! I had to take it off for him to get something to drink, and I doubt he will eat w/it on...

I'm NOT going to lie, I'm REALLY upset about this… I broke down in the car before the long drive home :cry:She told me that they do surgery on bulldogs ALL the time, but of course she has NO idea what my year has been like. Thanks for all the support as always guys… I'm probably going to need a valium on surgery day!!!

Re: WORRIED… Ugh!!!

It's gonna be okay, Tracey...deep breathes!! I'm sorry about the bad news about Winston's eye :( I know it's overwhelming and he sure is on a lot of meds (!). Try to take things step by step, one thing at a time and it will hopefully seem more manageable.

Did Winston get one of those plastic/hard cones? if you can run to the pet store you can find a cone that is flexible and soft in material that may make Winston feel more comyfy. It will be okay...((((HUGS))))

I'm sorry to hear this. As far as the cone, does he rub his eyes? If not you probably don't need it. After Brutus' first surgery I saw he was not bothering the surgery sites and I left it off. After three surgeries, I felt so bad for him because he would crash into the walls and not know what to do! I can understand your hesitation with the surgery after everything you have been through. Please keep us posted and post all you want, we will be here to help and support you.

Re: WORRIED… Ugh!!!

Hi, I'm so sorry you are going through this with Winston, I only have experience with allergy eyes, so am not much help. I use refresh tears in Blossoms eyes, and I give her Benedryl when she has symptoms. I hope Winston feels better soon, and you are able to find a solution that works for him. Sending hugs, love and prayers.

Re: WORRIED… Ugh!!!

@ddnene I'm so sorry to hear this. But just know he'll be OK!!

Regarding the cone- I was told not to get the softer, shorter one because he'd be able to use something (like a piece of furniture) he can walk into to scratch his eye. They thought the long, hard cone was better.

@cali baker it is a catch 22 if your dog has allergies year round. But I believe the reason has to do with inflammation. You can't put an allergen on the skin and see if there's a reaction when the skin's already inflamed/swollen. I'm pretty sure that's how skin allergen tests are done, by putting the allergen on the skin and waiting for a reaction.

I'll tag our nurses here to explain better than I can.

Re: WORRIED… Ugh!!!

Oh Tracey, I feel so terrible for all you're going thru and you broke down
as much as anything else because it's been such a continuing long string of
BAD. You're just plain wore out as anyone would be, there's no such thing
as Wonder Woman, she's a comic book creation, you are a human woman.

Wish I or any one of your caring brothers/sisters here could have been with
you today, you shore needed a loving shoulder to lean/cry on.
:assurred:

Tracey, do you have anyone to step in for a day or two to care for the baby
and give you a weekend to stay in and rest? If so...call in some favors!

Know this, Honey...it can't continue on forever even tho it seems like it can.
Do not think 'on down the line' but just each day (other than keeping Vet
appts) and lighten your load to just what HAS to be done right now, nothing
more. And I'm PM'ing my PH #, when you feel up to and are alone to really
unload, YOU CALL ME, I mean it! Sending love thru the airways, HOLD ON!

Thank you so much Carol, you are a true angel!!! I do have people that would kindly step in, but I'm pretty anal when it comes to my babies… I keep waiting for this string of bad luck to end, and I know that someday hopefully SOON it will… I will continue to bend, as long as I need to and I'm just praying… That's all I can do right now :(

I did find Winston a softer "Cone of Shame" and he seems much happier in it… I will watch him like a hawk, and if he starts to rub furniture or anything BACK to the hard plastic. I bought them some "EARLY" Christmas presents, and Winston was very excited about his reindeer. Him & Roxie were at it, so I'm gonna have to monitor that craziness too… LOL

I want to THANK all of you for your concern, advice, and just plain letting me vent!!! :hissycry: No matter WHAT happens, I will get thru this… one day at a time!!!
