    Benadryl doesn't do much for him long term, unfortunately. Btw, thank you guys for all of your responses and tags...all of this info and suggestions have been great. You'd think by now after 8 years that an active bullie owner would have seen it all, but I guess not!

    I would say since he is this old and has gone this long without the surgery and no real problems, I would skip the surgery. The temeril p, if given in a low dose should not be a problem long term. Just watch for side affects and if you see any, contact your vet. Also once he is on it for awhile, you can not stop giving it to him suddenly, he will need to be weened off it slowly.

    The surgery was pretty extensive and Mabel still sounds like she's got a throat full of gunk, though the vet says her lungs are clear. I would do it again because we have seen some improvement, but it was a tough recovery for her.

    I'm going to wait and see what we hear in the coming weeks, but D's lungs have always been clear, thank goodness. He's just so clear while on the temeril and sounds like a 80 year old smoker when he's been off it for a bit.
