I recently did a food switch from Fromm Pork n Peas to Earthborn Grate Plains Feast. Today is the 16th day since I started the switch, the 9th day since he's been on it 100%. I have seen improvements on his stool's firmness and his tear stains are getting better. The only issue I have been noticing is he has been scratching himself lately. Is there anything I can do to help/eliminate the scratching?

Is there any redness ,hot spots ,skin between paws is red, etc? Any fleas perhaps
Salmon oil is good for the skin and coat

It could be that he might be allergic to one of the Ingredient in the food

There isn't any hot spots or redness. He has been treated for fleas so I know that's out. I was afraid of Salmon oil because he once ate some of my other dogs food that had Salmon in it when he was very young and turned red in his face. So I'm not sure if it would cause any issues now. I have some Fish Oil vitamins but I never gave any to him for fear of an allergy. Sounds like I may have to role the dice.

I think I'm going to try the Salmon Oil since he was very young when it happened and I just realized it was an ingredient in his old food.

You might give the fish oil pills a go, and see how he does.

I'm going to try the pills. I started trying the Salmon oil and his scratching diminished but the previously lightened tear stains became dark very quickly.

You could also try a little coconut oil....a teaspoon of it is what I use when I use it with Sheldon softened a teaspoon goes a long way.

Just posted on another thread about an avocado based kibble (Avoderm's
Grain Free) clearing up itchiness, thinning hair w/bald spots, skin eruptions
and gassiness & eye goobers. I'd suggest adding avocado to existing kibble
if you think kibble is compatible instead of salmon or salmon oil~some bullies
do not tolerate it well. Give about 1/2 avocado (no pit) daily, about 2-3 slices
on each meal. Just great for skin & coat! GOD bless, let us know :)
