Rolling Lower Eyelid to have surgery or not?

Our Dolce is 5 1/2 years old for the last few years she has scratched the right side of her face raw while she is alone. We have been coning her to prevent this every time she is alone. An opthalmologist is now recommending we have a surgery done to take out some skin from her lower lid and muscle underneath. He says he is confident the rolling lid at points is causing her eye to itch and the scratching. I do agree at times the lid rolls a bit to the point where the little hairs could be touching her eye but most of the time it is not in this position at all. Has anyone been through this or have any advice.

Part of my concern moving forward is the uncertainty, the other is her age...
