    Default UTI ??? Need help!

    Helloo Bully friends!

We have had an expensive couple of months here at our house. With no end in sight! So frustrating. Boadie has had terrible allergies and Uni has been diagnosed with a UTI. But I am not sure that is the problem, well at least I don't think the meds and supplements we have giving her thus far are working. I first took her to the vet over a month ago. There were not able to get a urine sample, so they could not really say what was causing the problem. I first noticed her rocking with her but on the ground and licking at her front arms as she did this. I then checked her koochie to find a reddish brown stain down there. I thought it was a yeast infection because of this color. They vet did determine it was not a yeast infection. They gave me clavomox 2x a day for 5 days. It seems to go away, she seemed to have a bit more energy and a bit more sparkle in her eyes after the first run of antibiotics. Then after a week and a half or so it came back, I noticed her rocking again and saw the reddish brown color again, this time it was worse. So back to the vet we went, this time the were able to get a urine sample. They saw bacteria and crystals in it. They also sent a sample to the lab the be cultured. The culture came back with nothing grown. They vet tells me this is because the bacteria count was low, good thing she says. They also wanted to rule out kidney stones so we had an x-ray taken this time, nothing showed in the x-ray, good thing. So they sent me home this time with clovamox 3x a day for 7 days, as well as cranberry supplements, Urinary diet, and probiotics. Now we are done with the antibiotics this round and she is still taking the supplements and I began giving her apple cider vinegar in the water bowl BUT there has been no real change in this red brown stain down there. I am worried we are not really getting to the real problem. I really want this to be cured. Then to top it off Uni is scheduled for pallet reduction surgery in a week, we must travel 3+ hours to the specialist for this procedure and her is not available but a few days a month. I am worried that having this underlying problem with be harmful to her recovery. I am hoping someone has advice that with help us. It does not seem like what we are doing is helping. HELP!

Ps. They vet also ruled out the anal glads

Could be all allergy realted... this happens to Banks when her allergies are in high gear. I also make sure I avoid white potato in her food, adds to her yeast issues.... check under the tails, make sure they are clean.

I use withc hazel to clean her belly, near the kooch, under tail and paws/folds.... she is a yeasty mess if I do not

Exactly, since bulldogs cannot clean themselves they depend on their owners to keep their girlie bits clean and fresh. We can hopefully get her feeling better, and quick, because it sounds like you are spending a lot of $$$ in vet bills.

Using only a baby wipe however, can make yeast actually grow. It adds moisture to the area. And let me tell you I have found some dirty rashy girlie bits in the past! Poor girls!

So I use a baby wipe with witch hazel on it, and if it gets bad or yeasty down there I use malacetic, then dry.

The symptoms you are describing do not sound like the symptoms of a UTI- pardon my blunt terms here, it sounds like an itchy crotch. I could be wrong, but UTI usually comes with frequent peeing and straining to go pee, as well as blood in the urine.

I have been using malacetic to clean down there, it does seem to help but it did not make it go away. I wiped twice a day for a couple of weeks before I took her to the vet in the first place, but I have to admit when the vet told me it was UTI I did slack off on the wiping a bit. Still manage to do it every couple of days thou. I have steeped it back up seeing that she has not improved with the antibiotics.

Yes, one reason I am questioning if it really IS a UTI because she seems to be peeing just fine.

Just dropped Uni off at the specialist, she in for pallet reduction surgery. I asked about her vulva problems and he recommended episioplasty. He think that her anatomy is the reason for the infections and scooting. He however did not have time to do the procedure while she in in surgery today. Does any one have experience with this procedure? What I found searching on Google, it seems like it is fairly successfully in fixing chronic UTIs.

My girl had a vulvaplasty.. she had WAY too much skin and tissue in her 'girlie' region so it had to be reduce. It was a complete success, but the recovery of the area does take a few weeks to heal upOnce we did that, she did not have a UTI for years, they started up again recently, but it is due to weather and our having moved... very wet area and high grass caused a lot of moisture and she pretty much sits when she goes potty..
