Before we left last weekend for the mountains, Winston had another eye ulcer... and his vet mentioned that he believes Winston will need surgery to correct Entropion. He wants to wait for awhile to see if he grows anymore, and he then mentioned about how this surgery may have to be done again. I have ZERO experience with this because my other bullies have never had these issues. To me it seems stupid to do a surgery once, and then plan to do the same thing again later... but like I said I don't have any knowledge about this.

Does anyone have any advice or experience w/Entropion... or anything you would have done differently?

Another issue is my vet... I'm not too keen on having him do any surgery on my dogs. He is the one that I had w/Bella and most of you know what happened there... I like him, but I think he made a bad call concerning my baby and I just don't trust his judgement anymore. Problem is I live outside Nashville, and I haven't seen any recommendations for a great bully vet in my area :( How can I find a good bully vet?!! I have some names of local vets to check out, but these friends don't own bully's. Should I take Winston to a specialist for this Entropion surgery?

I'm really stressed out about this... and as most of you know the last thing I need right now is more drama & stress!!! :fie:

Sorry he is having problems. Jewel was a girl we adopted and she had Entropion when we got her. She was about a year old when we got her. We had to do a couple surgeries on her eye to get it done. I would definitely find a good bully vet for him adn also take him to a specialist for the surgery. We took Jewel to a specialist and still had to do two surgeries. Ask your vet if he knows how to make a serum from his own blood to put in his eye with the ulcer, it will heal a lot faster with that.

Thanks David... Do you think if I joined the Bulldog Club of America they would have vet recommendations for me? I don't know where to go from at this point...

I don't know anything about Entropian, and can't recommend a vet.

But with Blue, even though I trust his vet 100%, I opted to have his surgery done in an animal hospital by vets that specialize in one area of care.
Like the ophthalmologist for Blue's Cherry eye and the soft tissue and orthopedic specialist for his Soft palate.

Hospitals have equipment that Vets' offices usually don't, and there's many doctors on staff. The one I used even had an oxygen room.
I just feel safer having surgery done in a well equipped hospital with specialists doing the procedures, rather than a vets office.

So if I were you, I'd check those out in your area.

ddnene No they would not be of any help, plus it takes awhile to join the BCA. How far away are your from Smithville? There is a bully vet there that someone on here recommended. The only other thing to try is contact someone of the "Music City Bulldog Club" in Nashville and see if they recommend a good bully vet.

Thank you... I've never had surgeries besides spay's for my dogs so it's never been an issue. I will check out the hospitals & specialists...

Aww, sorry to hear Winston has to deal with Entropion:( Our Boeboe has it and she has had 5 operations and I'm not convinced it's sorted anyway. She has an appointment now in end of December to review her hips and we also asked then that they will take a good look at her eyes. The vet says if she still has hairs scratching the eye he will burn the root of the hairs out and apparently then they wont grow back again... I'm now wondering myself why he didn't do this from the start:confused: In my opinion the eye operations were kind of rough but maybe the burning is as well:unsure: No worries though, it wasn't super bad, but you know how it is:ashamed: always scary when our babies are feeling down. I'm stressing whenever they are out of my sight:blush2:

I'll let you know how it goes with Boeboe... but that is two months away still. The vet said last time she doesn't have hairs left so she might be fine and it's just me being paranoid... I can't myself see any hairs but we'll see how it goes. She sometimes gets snot in her eyes, especially the left one but I guess it can be something else causing it... I just have to figure out what if it's not hairs.

I have a picture of Boeboe just after her first op if you want me to send it to you I will:) the vet we had then was an :censored: though, and the operations after the first one felt less rough. We moved just when she needed the operation and we got recommended to use this vet, after her first op we decided to drive all the way back to our old vet, and we still do whenever there is anything going on with them. Sorry this text got a bit long:)

Hope you'll find a good vet:heart:

Oh Petra I would love to see the pics... I'm very green about all of this, I have NO idea. I can't believe your poor baby had 5 surgeries!!! We are not completely convinced that Winston needs this yet, so I definitely want to see an expert... I don't mind your long text at all. Any and all advice is very much appreciated... I will be keeping my fingers crossed for Boeboe

I put the pics here:) maybe it can be at help for other too.

The first two pics are just after she got back from the vet, she had the surgery that morning so she's still a little off:( She had flowers sent to her from one of my husbands colleagues from work. The third picture is taken just a day or two after her stitches from the first operation came out and the last picture is almost 6 months after her first surgery when all 5 ops were done. You can see marks after the stitches. Those marks are all gone now:)

Before her first surgery we noticed she started to be less and less active, she wanted to just sleep and one of her eyes got like a whitish transparent surface over the eye. Her eyes also started to tear a lot. All this happened pretty quickly and she was about 1 1/2 years old at the time.

Hope all works out well your Winston, maybe he doesn't need operations... sometimes eye drops works... the hairs can also be pulled out if it's not many and like our vet will do now burn them out... so the options are quite many:) and I'm sure it will go well:heart:

Thanks for sharing your pics... Poor baby, I'm glad that everything worked out for her. Winston is nowhere near that bad, I'm thinking we are in the very early stages... I'm hoping that they won't have to do the surgery at all!!!
