I took Wilson to the vet 2 weeks ago when his eye starting bothering him. They diagnosed a corneal ulcer and put him on an antibiotic ointment. We went back a week later and they did the dye test again and said it was healing but to continue the antibiotics for another week...he was still squinting so something was still bothering him. I mentioned to the vet that the pink tissue surrounding his eyes seems inflamed, but he said to continue the meds and monitor it. I have been diligent with the medication, but he is still holding his eye shut so I made an emergency appt with an Opthalmologist for today at 1:30 p.m. This morning, however, he scared the life out of me because when I tried to get him out of his crate he looked like he was having trouble seeing. I put a treat in front of his face and moved it to see if he would follow it, but he didn't. At this point, he seems like he can see somewhat, but is really struggling.

Has anyone had a similar experience??? I'm freaking out and 1:30 p.m. seems so far away.

I'm sorry I don't have any experience with this, but am thinking it could be an eyelash scratching his eye. It's a good idea to take him to a specialist, to get another opinion since his eye still seems to be irritated, even after treatment from his vet. Good job mommy. I hope it's nothing serious and you get good news from the ophthalmologist today. Please let us know what he said. Sending hugs, love and prayers to you and Wilson.

Aww, poor Wilson:( as others say it might be eyelashes scratching the eye, it is very common in bulldogs. What ever it is I'm sure it can be sorted out:) Thinking of you guys:heart:

Please let me know how you made out.. Yes Duke had this exact issue. I am glad you are going to an Opthamologist.. they gave Duke a contact lens for the pain..

I will wait to see what they tell you.. sending hugs.

ps he is not blind.. I thought the same thing and cried all the way to the vet.. its just painful so they squint to keep the eye closed.

Corneal ulcers DO affect your bully's vision so I wouldn't be TOO concerned since you know he has an ulcer that is not healing. I just went through this with my bully and was advised that reduced vision acuity was typical until you can get it healed up.

Agree with everyone else, they can cause temporary vision problems but also in Molly's case the ulcers left permenant scars too. Until you talk to the vet there is nothing to stress about and likely it's just temporary.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom and well wishes. Wilson was seen by the Opthalmologist and was diagnosed with ectopic cilia in one eye and distichia in both so he's in surgery now. They say he will look bad and will be in a lot of pain, but should feel much better soon. The poor baby must've been so uncomfortable!! :(

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear that he had to have surgery, and that he's in pain, but the food thing is you truted your Instinct, and didn't wait like your vet said. You took him to the specialist and got a second opinion. The news wasn't good, but at least you now know what is wrong with his eyes, and he's getting the surgery he needs. He's going to be fine, once he heals. Feel better Wilson.

I'm so sorry you and wilson are going this. The flip side is he is not going blind and will be better soon. I will pray for a speedy and pain free recovery.
