We had noticed the past few days that Mabel was coughing, paw licking, and not eating as well as usual. We were keeping an eye on her, hoping it would quickly pass. This morning she is coughing, has a stuffy, snotty nose, and won't eat. I have put her back on her antibiotics, but it's breaking my heart. I feel like we just about get her in good health--for a day or two-- and then we take three giant steps backward. Maybe I should have started the antibiotics sooner . . .

Are you finishing the antibiotics? I know I sometimes stop giving them as soon as I see they are feeling better but maybe she has a bug that needs the whole course?

Oh I'm so sorry that she isn't feeling well .. :*(

once you start the antibotics you shouldnt stop untill the prescription is finshed.

I ALWAYS finish antibiotics. :D That's one of the first things I learned in nursing school. No superbugs here! I hate when she looks at me like, "help me, Mom!" :*(

Poor Mabel. i hope she starts feeling better soon.

Not me :D As soon as they start looking better I put the bottle on the shelf and save them :secret: I get fosters in all the time who need meds and for one reason or another I can't get them to the vet right away.

I was lucky to find a vet who gave me multiple refills to use when we need them. You should always finish antibiotics. Bacteria have an amazing ability to morph and become resistant to antibiotics if they aren't completely killed during the course of treatment. That's why we now have superbugs like MRSA.
