    Default Anyone dealt with distichiasis

So in June when I took duchess in for her annual exam the doc plucked some lashes that were itratating her- I though for sure it was entropian- but it wasn't I was thrilled- he said if they came back come in and he would pluck them again. Well they came back and she is squinting. I researche online and found that it is distichiasis. Has anyone dealt with this? If you did what method did you use to treat? I read that cryotherapy is the best. We have an appointment with the eye specialist on Tuesday.

We just finished cryosurgery w Brie yesterday. Having the hairs on the inside is very painful and that s y your bully is squinting n prolly blinking a lot. Brie could barely open her eyes the poor thing. She has to wear a one of shame for 10 days while her eyes heal. It really is the best way to remove them, I think. There is always a chance they can grow back, but paws crossed that is not the case or either of us!

Was it in both eyes? They put them under? Does it require overnight stay? How long was the procedure ? What did it cost?

Yes, it was on all 4 eyelids for Brie. They do put them under and usually keep them over night for observation. For us, it was between 800-1200 but we ended up at the lower end cos the specialist didn't have to stitch her eyes. I'm not sure how long the actual procedure took but I am assuming just a couple hours at most. I'm not sure how the specialist you are seeing will do things. We took Brie to the UGA specialist as we live in Georgia. Brie had several ulcers in her eyes as a result of the hairs. It is imperative you get them removed from your baby! If I can answer anything else, plz just ask!!

Orion has one single offending eyelash that had caused an ulcer. We had it removed...then returned again in 4 months to have it removed again. Once again 6 months later and we haven't been back. All we were charged was the office exam and 12.00 for a dye test. That beats surgery any day. I did catch baby O rubbing her face in the carpet a week ago...but I haven't seen her squinting. I'm thinking she's just having allergy issues....too much time in the fresh cut grass.

DON'T GET THEM PLUCKED... they will just keep growing in. Go to a board certified ophthalmologist to have it properly taken care of..
