Re: Can heartwarming pill make them ill?

I would say it is probably from flea and tick stuff. What heartworm meds are you giving? Plus I fixed you auto correct boo boo :)

Hi, I haven't any experience with heart worm medication giving a bad reaction, or making my bullies ill. But it is very possible, as any medication can cause a bad reaction, or the potential to make your dog sick, just as every person is different, and reacts differently to prescription medications, dogs can have the same reactions. We use Revolution from June to November, and it is administered by a vial that we break open and place the drops in between the shoulder blades, it covers fleas, ticks, and heartworm. This is our second season using this medication and we haven't had any reactions to it so far. Which medications are you using?

The thread title ill says heartwarming tho? Lol ..and you changed my boo boo to heartwood...lmbo!
she is taking triheart plus. The pill is bigger then the others but the dose is the same n I asked the vet if this was the correct one (cos it confused me when i first saw it) n they said yes.

the flea n tick is topical, goes in between the shoulder blades.

Yes they can, either the heartworm or the flea and tick medication can make them sick. Ace was a little lethargic the first couple of treatments but never ill. Now it doesn't seem to bother him. For some dogs the medication can be toxic and for others not so much or not much at all. But I don't think it would be unusual for them to feel a little under the weather with either even if it doesn't make them sick. Any type of parasite medication is poison to one degree or another.

On the medication I give Ace it states that it should be given with food. I always feed Ace before I give heartworm/flea and tick medication. I don't think its a good idea to give parasite medication on an empty stomach. Just like human medications, some are to be taken with food some on empty stomach. But if the brand you give your dog states give with food or if your Vet advises then follow directions.

Thank you guys. I'm just trying to keep her well. She goes to the specialist tomorrow to have her stitches removed an for an eye recheck. So if he feels real crappy I can address it w them. I just don't recall her having issues w the stuff before. But maybe I'm just being paranoid is I'm worried about her.

Lisabear123, i recently started Tate on Sentinel and Comfortis oral tablets b/c he just did not do well w/the Revolution topical (he would act crazier than normal, running around trying to get the stuff off of him). After giving him the Sentinel the first time, that evening, he threw up. So yes, could very well be that Brie is reacting to the new medication. Just keep an eye out and I'm sure she will be okay!

It is always best to ask a question and there is never a dumb question. They are our babies and we treat them as such. Next time the heartworm and flea protection is due you might want to give them on separate days so if there is a reaction you will have a better idea which one it is. You are absolutely doing the correct thing by protecting your bully from heartworm and fleas/ticks. You are a great bully momma!

Lisabear123 Don't ever feel stupid for asking a question because you are not stupid by any means. As others have said you are a concerned bully mama and asking questions is a good thing. I live by the belief that there are no stupid questions.

I totally agree with this! We see our Bully's as one of our children even though they walk on four legs and are furry and when giving medication we always keep an eagle eye out for any and all reactions to said medication. Its the same for our fur babies. My daughter Meaghan isn't allergic to bactrim ( an antibiotic) but she had a very strong reaction to the medication she ran 105° temperature and scared the living crap out of her Momma its the same with our Bully Babies.Your baby may not be allergic but just having a bad reaction to the meds.

Love has a name and its name is Sheldon!!!<3
