You've been given great advice by Becky (@jakeisgreat) for the food.

I have two questions ... firstly what did the breeder tell you to feed him.

Secondly, please make sure the vet checks for giardia in the fecal sample!!!!

The Vet is sending the sample to an outside lab for much more thorough analysis, so I'm sure that will be covered.

As for what the breeder has told me to feed him it is Royal Canine Mini Starter. Problem is, we haven't been able to feed him any kibble since he arrived as he's been having diarrhea. So far its been 3/4 cup of rice, 1/4 cup of broiled chicken, and a 1/2 tablespoon of pumpkin. He loves it, but the stool is getting worse, and I apologize for being graphic, comes out looking like the canned pumpkin, so I may nix that

I hope Bruno is feeling better soon. Hopefully the vet will be able to give you a clearer picture of what may be going on w/him once the test results come back. It sounds like he is eating and drinking normally though so that's a very good sign. Keep us posted please!

It sounds like you are doing all of the right things... The most important is that you are communicating with your vet. Make sure puppy has plenty of fresh water and you might want to consider not taking him anywhere until the vet gives you the all clear.

When I got Ftse he too had diarrhoea and I fed him boiled chicken and rice and it soon cleared up but his was from feeding him raw meat the breeder told me that her husband started them on raw and they got diarrhoea. Bruno is so adorabull I do hope feels a lot better real soon and don't forget to post some photos and keep us updated.

Dont assume Giardia will be checked for. My guy had it for months before it was discovered (was not checked until a 3rd stool sample was taken and sent to a different lab). Ended up stunting my pups growth and he is 3 years old and NEVER had a solid stool (now he need to have his anal glands manually expressed due to this). Just saying to make sure its covered as you cannot assume anything.

Thanks everyone so much for the kind words and support! Its greatly appreciated, and I can tell this is a group of people who truly love their dogs. I've already fallen in love with little Bruno, he's so friendly and such a cool little guy!

As for his health, last night, albeit temporarily, I was able to move from sleeping on the couch, to back in my own bed with Bruno in the crate next to me, so he could always see me. For the first few hours he was fine, and when I woke up at 2, he was still asleep. I then woke up a bit after three to him whinning and diarrhea in his cage and all over my floor. It was extremely soft, and a yellowish, orange (sorry for the graphicness). We're going to try to remove the pumpkin for his checken and rice, and see what happends.

Btw, Im giving him 1 cup (3/4 rice and 1/4 chicken)(Both loosely scooped in) of food, 3 times a day, and keeping it pretty early (6-7am, 12-1pm, 5-6pm) to try to keep the late night accidents to a minimum. Am I doing anything wrong here?

Im sure I will get a bunch of great answers, so thanks in advance. Also, to all those commenting on his appearence, the profile photo doesnt do him justice. If theres somewhere I can/should add photos and videos (he's hilarious!) let me know! You guys have shared your knowledge and love, I'd love to share my little guy!

I am going to call the vet now and make sure thats checked! I paid a lot extra to have it sent out, as he said they check for way more, so hopefully thats one of the things they check for, but we'll find out. Im sorry you had to go through that with your little guy. The things we do for the ones we love, lol! My girlfriend would love to have half your problem. She keeps saying she hopes he never grows cause he's so cute now, and she can actually lift and hold him!

I tagged a few of our puppy specialist... hopefully they will be able to provide some insight. The orange is probably from the pumpkin, but the yellow I am not sure of. As for pictures, there is a seciton for photos and videos and you can also do a album within your profile.

Poor sweet boy, I am pretty much a puppy poop queen so here goes.

Okay some strange questions coming your way!

First off 1 cup three times a day may be too much for him right now, go to 3/4 c 3 times a day until he gets better. Too much food can only axaggerate the situation.

When he takes his poo, how is it coming out? Is it a bomb and shooting out like a cannon......

or is he squatting making a nice pile of soft serve ice cream looking poop?

Is the outside of his bum raw and red at all (like diaper rash?)

Hey,

It sorta splatters out like a cannon. And I could definately reduce his food intake a bit. And his backside looks fine to me. He doesnt seem to be in any realy pain, just the runs, and bad.

I just spoke to the vet, and it appears he tested positive for Giardia, so I have to go pick up medicine for him. While this is concerning, Im glad we caught it early on, and hopefully its fully treatable. I feel so bad for him, because we're trying to crate and potty train him, and he's generally been doing a decent job. Hopefully he'll get better quick!

Awwwww..mystery probably solved..but I agree with Lisa..1 cup 3 times a day is way too much food and will cause the runs too! Good luck..giardia is a tough thing and can be easily passed to other dogs. Let us know how he's doing!
