Hello. My 15 month old ebd was neutered about 1 month ago.. After this he got another UTI. AS before he was put on Clavamox but one day after getting down and actually watching for his urine stream I noticed he was just dripping urine so I called my vet and she said to bring him in. She said they found cristels in his urinary track and 3 doctors tired to catherdorize ( sorry about the spelling) Well he needed surgery and the surgery was preformed last Wednesday ( like 10 days ago) They told me there would be a lot of blood and because I have insurance an they would do the rapid claims they wanted him to stay hospitalized for 8 or 9 days. I would go see him every day but he was dripping LOTS of blood on the exam room floor. Well this past Thursday I brought him home.. He was not quite himself and to be expected but the following morning when I woke him up at 500am to go outside and potty on the way to the elevator where I live he just lost control of his bodily functions. Fell over on his side and the walk in front if him filled up with pee and blood. I panicked. I thought Buddy was dieing and ran to get my friend up so help me. He was down on the hall floor for a good 3 or 4 mins as I was trying to keep control. get my cell phone ect.. He did get up and I carried him back in my condo.. I called several emergency vets and at the same time he was very tired. I let him rest until 640 and then rushed him to my regular vet where the did a bunch of tests. They did a full blood panel. and EKG and a nuerological exam and keep him for the day.. Well They said everything on his tests looked good except his red cell count was low. Not extremely low but low and I could pick him up yesterday afternoon. I have to clean the area where his sutchers are 2 x daily and apply a topical antibiotic.. All day today he has more or less been sleeping in between 1 hour or so lounging. I called the vet today and she said well I would be resting too but to me.. this surgery was Wednesday the 19th like 10 days ago.. His sutchers are to come out in 4 days? She I e giving him some drops called HI VITE to build up his red cell count.. He is getting better but I am really scared about loosing him. He is only 15 months old. If anyone who might read this and has had any experience with this type of this I would appreciate any feedback.. Thanks everyone:pray:

Holy crap. I would have been TERRIFIED. I'm afraid I'm no help on this one but SOMEONE here will know something! I am sure of that. I hope your pup is feeling MUCH better VERY soon.

Be strong for him! When we worry, they worry too.

It is Sunday Morning. I have another call into my vet. After urinating he continues to drip blood ( 11 days later?) I have to hand feed him he is no longer going over to his bowl.. At times yesterday his spirit was up and he was chewing on one of his chew toys and when he see's another dog outside he becomes a bit excited but I think his red cell count is still low in spite of the fact I am giving him this HI-VITE drops 2 x daily.. Thanks everyone

OMG... so sorry you and Buddy are going through all this. I have no experience with these issues, but it seems way too long for recovery/healing. HUGS and prayers to both of you

Thank you everyone for your support. Buddy had another episode of passing out.. fainting. Do not know what it is but both times he fell on his side and urinated indoors. My vet callled yesterday and I had to call back an apologize for more or less cussing them out. My dog was fine until he was nuetered then one thing after another until this. I am bringing him back in today.. She said over the phone she thinks it could possibly be his heart. They did an EKG last week and it was fine but there is another test ultrasound type of thing if I can remember her.. Thanks everyone

I'm so sorry that you and your poor baby have to through something this horrible. I hope he feels better soon. Urethrostomy is really big operation and I'm sorry, but I have to wonder if he really needed it??? He is only 15 months and can not have a long history of urinary stones/crystals. They must of tried everything else possible before this surgery.

Well he had multiple UTI'S and after he was nuetered one day I got down to the ground and was watching his urine stream and nothing was coming out a drop here and there but I called the vet who told me to bring him in and then did an xray came back and said 3 vets there tried to cathoridze him and that he did need the surgurey.. Personally I think Doctors . even human doctors are too surgurey happy as it brings in the $$$. I have an e mail into a specialist in the area and am waiting as usual, from my reg vet to call me back. Thanks

You & Buddy are on my mind and in my prayers.

Sorry but I think your vet was too hasty on the surgery.
I am furious with his seemingly dismissive post opt care
of Buddy, I'd stay on his a$$ and refuse to pay the bill if
can't be bothered with your calls.

My heart has hurt so much as I can feel your worry & sadness
in your posts~sending love, hope, strength and peace~GOD bless!

Thanks Carol. For the past 2 days Buddy has been slowly but surely begun to be his old self.. He is eating good and sleeping less and playing. No episodes of passing out. siezure or whatever he had 2 times. I am home with him all day even when he is sleeping. I contacted a specialist in my area that does many tests onsite MRI's cardio and nuero. I wrote to him and he said he would be glad to see Buddy. I have an appointment for Buddy to have his suchure's removed today. On his discharge planning it says he may or may not have to be sedated and possibly be admitted over night to remove these. I am playing it by ear. I know when he came home from being hospitilized he was in sad shape.. Sleeping all the time. barley eating and ofcourse those episodes. He is finally bouncing back to his regular self and I have been praying.. I really thought I was going to loose Buddy. Now I am wondering if he was just so tramuaitzed and that is why those episodes occured.. Thanks everyone for all your support..

Thanks for answering so quickly, I'm relieved & grateful that Buddy is doing better.

I just don't get a good feeling about the vet and he seems to have no care for his
patients and their concerned parents...disgusting!

Will continue to keep y'all and Buddy's recovery (and specialist appt) in prayer.

Vets as far as I am concerned are all about the money. At least all the ones I have ever encountered in my life time. Its a business like anything else and do believe most are too quick to suggest surgery ect anything to bring in the $ My vet is quick to want to sell me Trifexis or revolution when Sentinel is less expensive and safer from what I have read.. Thanks Carol Buddy and Gary
