    Default Trifexis replacing Sentinel

We took Koozer to the vet today for his update on Bordatella vaccine and to get a refill on his Sentinel (flea, heartworm meds). However, as most of you are aware, Sentinel is on such a backorder, that you can't find it anymore. So, our vet has switched to Trifexis. With that said, has anyone used Trifexis (another name is Comboguard) before? Koozer was doing great on the Sentinel, and I just hate switching him over, but I have no choice. I want to know if it's okay stuff or should I find another product?

I saw on a previous thread that quite a few people have been on the Sentinel...what have you switched to if you have already switched?

My breeder recommended Trifexis, but I heard some questionable things about it and decided to go with Heartgard for now until I know more about it. We had used Sentinel for years.

Our vet suggested Trifexis also and all 3 of my dogs got sick on it. I have went back to Heartgard and Comfortis for fleas. I have never had a problem with comfortis the vet just said it would be cheaper using Trifexis. Needless to say, I'm back to what was good.

There are serious serious problems with Trifexis ..there are dogs that have died. I know some here use it with no problem. @Davidh..did you know about Sentinel?

Yes, Sentinel was on backorder for a long time, but our vet finally got some in and has it now. When they didn't have it, we used Heartguard until we could get Sentinel again. I would NOT use Tryflexis as it has the potential to kill your bully.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll discuss it with the vet.

Ace is on trifexis. No problems so far. All parasite medications pose risks. Check the active ingridents in both meds. And research them. Its the best way I think to draw an conclusion.

While I am sure Koozer would be okay on the Trifexis, I decided to look and see if 1800petmeds had the Sentinel in stock...they do!!!! I would just be happiest keeping him on the same medication which I know works for him and that he tolerates well. Thank you all for helping me decide what to do and for tolerating my paranoia about potential med switching

When it comes to your paranoia about a medicine, It should raise a red flag…… If your being prescribed something you don't totally feel comfortable with, ask the hard questions, Thats what we all do, and for good reason….. When something happens to your bully, your the one thats guilty for making an uninformed decision. Please let me throw something at you, you may or may not know….. These vets fresh out of Vets school, get kick backs from the food companies, and from the drug companies to peddle their products….. They could care less about your Bully like you do, Your the responsible parent, it's like making decisions for an infant, You have to do whats best for your pet. I think the point Rural Mystic is making, is Trifexis has killed pets before, but so have the rest of them, Trfexis has been debated in this very forum a few times since i've been here. It's not effected many, but others it's left stone cold dead. Your the only person who can pull the trigger on this medication, and as my Vet said, your the one paying for it, I can write a prescription for anything, That's his job, and he's right I pay the bill, He and I pull no punches, sort of a love hate relationship, He hates the information Highway, it blocks him from peddling his medication and food, I love it, it keeps me informed….. He would love it if I never sought a second opinion, But as long as my Bully is under my care and watch, He can just get over it….. I'll continue to care for my Bully happily, while he and his family are off in Jamaica vacationing on his new found advice and money from the Food and Medical supply companies, But as long as I'm keeping my Bully's strong and healthy, he isn't reaping the benefits of my money either. You asked a perfectly understandable question, and thats why were all here, to learn, and seek the experience of others…..
