Maggies tail keeps getting infected even with daily cleanings etc. The vet had mentioned it might be necessary to cut her tail. Has anyone done this procedure?

Yes, our Lucy had to have her tail done because the bone was growing into her bum, best thing we ever did for her.

My guy had it done and it was the best thing we ever did. We were very lucky to have an experienced vet in our area. Good luck!

Find an experience with this proceedure Vet, or better yet, a specialist, make sure they know bulldogs, and they know the proceedure.

Gizmo had her Tail Amputated, because of a deep tailpocket, which was a constant cause of infection.

there's alot of talk about tail amputation, and tail pockets on this site :) I know I've posted a few times about it :)

btw, it was the best thing we could do for Gizmo, she is so much happier now, and not sore and grumpy! :)

We had a close call with it, but so far we have been able to keep the infection away since the last one. Witch Hazel & Desitin have been our best friends! If you do have to have it done, good luck. I hope your baby is feeling better soon. The infections are soo uncomfortable for them. It broke my heart to see Winston so miserable. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

Ours is scheduled for next Tuesday. I will let you know how it goes. We've had to postpone it once because of a skin infection. Same thing with the infections ad daily cleanings... our girl is 5-1/2 months and as she grows the inverted tail keeps getting tighter and tighter.

UPDATE re: Maggie... the vet recommended it and we just had her tail amputated a couple of days ago. Amputated sounds so severe... but it looks great and is healing well. I'm glad we did this for Maggie. Recovery is much better and faster than her spay.
