    Default Elongated Palate Curiousity...

Can you tell by just looking at your bully if they have an Elongated Palate?
If you bully's bottom teeth poke out does that mean that they have a possibility of having the condition?
Do you have to fix it surgically or can it leave be? If you leave it be, will you lessen your bully's lifespan because of it? Is it cosmetic or something that's medical? Is it considered Congenital?

I know vet fees are different in each area, but what are the round about costs associated with having this corrected?

Just want to familiarize myself with this a bit more. I'm still a little overwhelmed by that in the internet info.

it explains how i knew Lola had an elongated palate by the way she could not breathe when excited. it is not cosmetic, it can save your bullies life. sorry I'd type more but I'm on my phone.

as april stated, it is not cosmetic at all... here is a good article on vet street on the topic

    http://www.vetstreet.com/care/brachycephalic-syndrome

Both Nitschke and my Frenchie Chelois needed this procedure, but my girl, Banks did not. Our vet knew both Nitshcke and Cheli would need the procedure at around 8 months, but would not do the surgery till they were at least two years old. when we had Nitschke's done, our vet was not comfortable doing the procedure so he sent us to a specialist and the cost was roughly $3000 (in 2006). Cheli, just had his done last week at by our vet for a little over $1000.

One of the biggest symptoms of hard to breathe and sleep apnea, both Nitschke and Cheli would stop breathing several times a night and when napping. They both also would vomit 'foam' when they got over excited.
